    "Calmest beautiful beach"
Grotto Bay remains my favorite Bermuda hotel as the beach being on a protected large bay, has the warmest water (warmer than the open ocean beaches) and the calmest water everyday suitable for all swimming abilities, standup paddle boarding, sailing, windsurfing, and snorkeling. Also like the on site cave swimming (although water there is cold), and the friendly staff who always provide a warm welcome and excellent service. There is a hill between half of the buildings and the beach, but found the walking distance room - to restaurants to be shorter than recent stay at Fairmont Southhampton. Also, the commute to beach was shorter (Southhampton has a bus every 10 minutes or so, here you just have a short walk), the pool as nice as the Southhampton Fairmont and the spa at both excellent. Grotto Bay also has a Swizzle Inn restaurant within 5 min walk, and the Crystal Caves a safe (on a sidewalk or path) 15 min walk away. The short commute (5 min taxi ride) from the airport is also a plus (more beach time on arrival and departure day as less stress about making it to airport on time). The airport is visible from the hotel (not that noise is a problem as so few flights a day and all take off over ocean and not hotel...but some might not enjoy a reminder that they too will have to fly away from Bermuda). The recently refurbished rooms are pleasant with comfy beds, the option for connecting rooms, although there is no room service, no walkin closets, and the bathroom small.

    "The Rosedon Stands Alone"
This was our 3rd stay at the Rosedon over the years. Prior to our recent stay in July, 2017, we were there in June, 2014 and one other time about 10 yrs. ago. The Rosedon underwent a major renovation this year and we are happy to say that the Bermuda charm is still there. All of the updates were tastefully done and have only enhanced a beautiful lady. The new star at the hotel is their restaurant, The Huckleberry. The dining scene has changed somewhat in Bermuda and there were some disappointments. I am a total foodie and I am happy to report that dinner at the Huckleberry was killer. I had the halibut and my husband had the local rockfish. Both were impeccably prepared and melted in your mouth. I enjoyed their house white wine with dinner. It was a nice, light bright and interesting little wine. Perfect with the halibut. Dessert was also very good....a lemon tart with fresh berries and a chocolate marquis cake (which was the star). We also enjoyed scrumptious breakfasts on the porch & our patio during our stay. The rooms are nicely appointed and absolutely immaculate. Some of their housekeepers have been there for over 30 yrs. which says something. We know many of the staff and they are always so personable and helpful. You feel like you are visiting old friends. Also, a fun place to meet folks from all over the globe. Since the hotel is small and intimate, you can really enjoy conversations on the gorgeous front porch or pool side.
