Never again

Awful! Carpark was closed, so we had to park 12 minute walk down the road, bed had zero springs left in it, the room Was beyond hot, couldn’t open the window for air, orange juice at breakfast was hot, lift was broken so we had to climb top floor with all our luggage, carnage, hotel is so run down it’s disgusting!

The hotel is very dated, not just in a cool historic sense, but in a real "the walls are dirty and the carpet is thirty years past its prime" sense. We had to be moved rooms because the toilet stopped working, and in the new room the fan didn't work. The shower was held together by zipties. Not the best experience for our honeymoon. No aircon in the hotel, and one of the lifts was broken. From other guests we spoke with and from reviews, it looks like the lift has just been out of service for ten years. Many reviews will have a response from the hotel stating they are about to do renovations, but it seems to never actually get renovated. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and the location is fantastic, which are the only reasons I give any stars in this case, but if you're staying in Cardiff for more than one night, perhaps try another hotel. This was not worth the price of the room.

Staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Bedroom was lovely, spotless and well stocked with toiletries. From the outside the building looks a bit scruffy and in need of a coat of paint. Big job tbough, i appreciate that. However, when you're inside, you can't see that! This was my first stay there, and I will definitely book again. It's really well positioned for the city and castle, and has a multi storey car park a few hundred yards away, with a superb discount scheme. We had a brilliant time!

The photos are from maybe 20 years ago. It is a dirty run down hotel. The wall paper was peeling up, mold was painted over, cobwebs everywhere, dead bugs in the lighting. Even the bed was sunken in on one side when sat upon. We contacted expedia immediately and were informed to stay the evening due to no manager after hours to reconcile with. We got in very late in the evening and were left with no choice but to stay a night. We immediately checked out first thing in the morning citing all of the appalling conditions. The manager did not seem surprised in the slightest and never even asked for what room we were in until we were about to leave and asked if we had other accommodations already. Do not stay in this digusting hotel.

Central to Cardiff castle, however hotel room lacked proper lighting in bathroom, no extractor in bathroom, light switches that didn’t seem to be connected to any lights and the hair dryer didn't work.

No lifts working in a sweltering heatwave... eek

Our room was nice enough, if a little tired looking, and the hotel entrance was lovely. BUT both lifts broke down and we were on the third floor in a 34° heatwave. No apologies were given and no accommodations made. Apart from this near death experience of climbing SO many flights of stairs three or four times a day, the staff were lovely and the location was spot on. The breakfast was also very good.

The staff at the hotel were absolutely lovely - very welcoming and accommodating. They really did their best to make our stay pleasant, and we appreciated their kindness. The hotel lobby is beautiful and gives off an elegant, upscale feel. Unfortunately, that first impression didn’t match the quality of the actual room we stayed in. We booked a Deluxe Twin Room. The room and bathroom were a decent size, but the lack of air conditioning made it extremely uncomfortable. We were given a tower fan, but it barely worked even on the highest setting. The room was still unbearably hot. There was also only one power socket in the entire room, and it was located far from the beds, which made using the fan or charging devices very inconvenient. We raised our concerns with reception, and to their credit, the receptionist was very kind and gave us the tower fan they were using downstairs. It worked slightly better, but due to the socket placement, it still didn’t help cool the room while we were in bed. Overall, we really appreciated the warm and helpful service, but the room itself fell short in terms of comfort, especially for a “deluxe” room. Sadly, we wouldn’t stay again unless the room conditions improve. Really disappointed, especially for how much the room cost too £300+!

Staff were very welcoming and lobby is pretty but can also be very deceiving. Lobby didn’t reflect the quality of the rooms. We stayed in a deluxe twin rooms and it was awful. No airconditioning, there was a fan in the room but it barely work. There was only one socket in the room and it was far away from the beds which was quite an inconvenient. We complained to the staff and the receptionist was very lovely and gave us the fan that they were using! Staff are 5 stars but the rooms needs improving!

Sad but hope!!

Having last visited 25 years ago in its hey day , it was second to none. 5 star all round. Sorry to see it so sad today. But I hear it’s going to be totally refurbished and extended. If such is the case, we shall be back. The staff were still 5 star, friendly helpful and professional. A top team .

Really like the location of the hotel, as it’s close to all the important attractions! Staff is also very helpful. Like other comments have pointed out, some reno would be nice, especially in the bathrooms. Comfortable beds and great to have a fan in the room.
