Overall, we had a good stay, and the staff throughout the hotel were friendly, respectful, and helpful—especially Francisco, who provided outstanding service and made our mornings enjoyable. Because of employees like him, I'm still giving this hotel 3 stars. However, for a hotel charging approximately **$500 per night**, the cleanliness was disappointing. The biggest issue was the rooftop pool during the Fourth of July celebration. The pool water was extremely cloudy and appeared dirty. It was so unappealing that I would not have let my children swim in it. During the four hours we spent at the pool, not once did we see a staff member cleaning tables, picking up trash, or maintaining the area. Instead, employees spent much of their time standing around and using their phones while trash and used towels accumulated. The windows surrounding the pool were also filthy. They were so dirty that we had to use our own towels to wipe the glass just so we could enjoy the view and watch the fireworks. That should never be necessary at a hotel of this caliber. Our guest room also needed much more attention. There was noticeable dust throughout the room, and my wife experienced allergy symptoms for hours after we left. Housekeeping needs to pay much closer attention to detail. The hotel has great potential, and the customer service from most employees was excellent. I don't often write reviews, but I'm happy to do so in this case. I grew up in San Antonio and was in town visiting family during my stay. It's been a long time since I've ventured into the touristic heart of my hometown, let alone stayed there, but I'm very glad I gave Mokara a chance. Everything about my stay at Mokara impressed me. I think a good hotel is one where things just feel easy and effortlessly comfortable, and the Mokara staff accomplishes that objective with aplomb. From the front desk to the valet counter to the restaurant staff, everyone seemed to somehow know my name from the moment I arrived. Requests were accommodated promptly, accurately and with a smile. Further, lots of little details were present that I would normally only expect at a higher price point. One nice example: the ice bucket in my room was always filled with fresh ice whenever I returned. It's a small thing, but it suggests a high level of overall attention to detail and care for the guest experience. The unexpected interior design eschews the usual sleek, contemporary feel embraced by most new-ish upscale hospitality venues and leans into a warm, traditional aesthetic reminiscent of some of San Antonio's vaunted older hotels. It works surprisingly well. The feeling is unpretentious and rooted in regional vernacular, but without feeling like an "Old West" cartoon. In general I found this hotel understated, relaxed (and relaxing), and very comfortable. I'll be back.

The front desk staff was very kind and accommodating. The staff at the normal restaurant was great. The hallways of the floors of the hotel smelled old and musty. The room we stayed in was not cleaned very well as there were urine drops in front of the toilet that hadn’t been cleaned. The extra bed was so old with an old dirty mattress. The walls had a lot of scuff marks on them and carpet was worn and looked dirty. I was expecting more from this property as it is a Marriott BonVoy property.

The rooms, especially bathroom could use a deep clean, and the air conditioner seemed to be working at minimal capacity. Overall, It was an ok stay, bed comfortable, close to Riverwalk, shopping and dining

I'll preface by saying that we have been visiting and loving the Menger for 40 years. It's our go-to for a nice weekend in San Antonio. This time it was a different experience.l We had a premium room on the third floor with a balcony. We choose it because it was a special weekend to celebrate. Although it was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the balcony overlooking Alamo Plaza, there were two major items that marred the experience somewhat. The AC never got below 76 -- night or day. The mattress was truly bad - maybe it's the one Roosevelt slept on. As a side note, housekeeping never showed up for our two-night stay. When we asked for fresh towels at the desk we were told that they "were busy." We did get towels delivered a few hours later Although it was a really fun and special weekend, I was disappointed with our longtime favorite place to stay.

You can’t beat the location!! Included breakfast was very good and an added bonus. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
