"Gorgeous hotel, superb value."
My daughter and I chose this location for a visit to Florence, as we only had a few days in Tuscany and wanted a taste of the countryside as well as the city. If you're on foot, access to the town (Grassina) is a 35-45 minute bus ride from Florence, then a 1 1/2 km walk uphill from the town square -- easy if you're a good walker, but challenging with luggage! If you're not a good walker and are not renting a car, you might want to take a cab from Florence, which might cost from 30-50 euros, depending on airport vs train station, traffic, and the honesty of the driver! That said, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and the manager was very kind and as helpful as he could be with his limited English. The buildings and gardens were immaculate and completely authentic, there were tables and chairs everywhere for outdoor meals or relaxing with a glass of wine, and wonderful views in every direction. If you like luxury travel, the setting, buildings and gardens would live up to your expectations, though you might find the kitchen and furnishings a little simple for your taste. It was perfect for ours. Breakfast fixings were only Melba toast, jam and Nutella, but they also provided coffee, tea, and olive oil, and it's easy to get more supplies in Grassina or Florence. I would love to come back for at least a week, rent a car, and use this place as a home base for day trips to Pisa, Siena, etc.

"Lovely setting in Tuscan country close to Florence"
This small piece of heaven, only about 30 minutes by car from Florence, lies in the hills surrounding the Tuscan capital, and is a piece of paradise. Overlooking the valley, and surrounded by olive groves, this lovely stone country house was a perfect stay for me and my wife, both to enjoy the place, and scout the city of Florence and neighbouring attractions easily by car. The fully equipped room had apart from a bedroom & bathroom suite, a large kitchen-sitting room with two windows offering a splendid view over the valley. Complete with stove and fridge, I dared buy local ingredients and wine, and cook up nice dishes for my wife. Great restaurants are also nearby, at fair prices. Everything worked fine, and the hot water and internet were flawless too. The host was in a special category herself: Mrs. Aurora is a very gentle and pleasing person, with the kindness to offer all the information she could, to make our stay the best possible! Definitely, if I ever return to Florence, this is where I will stay! Thanks for everything Aurora! Gracie Mille!

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
