One thing could certainly be improved. My room had a walk in shower, the controls were were dreadful so hard to balance to get the correct temperature. It was either too hot or cold. If the lever kind were fitted, not only are they so easy to use with no danger of scolding oneself, they can be turned on and off so quickly thus saving so much more water.

"Good location, opposite the beach"
Hotel is located in a very good location with a short walk to the Old Town. It was convenient. Located on busy road opposite the beach. Facilities were acceptable, although walls are thin so you have noise from neighbour rooms, outside and above/below. Overall was good value for money

"Elegant hotel, first class staff"
Had a great 2 night stay. Recommended by a friend. Didn't disappoint. Beautiful exterior, and elegant interiors, felt like walking back in time. Notably helpful and friendly staff. Walked to all local attractions from the hotel, including a pleasant walk to Beachy Head. A filling full English buffet breakfast included and dinner at The Garden restaurant was good too. Don't miss out on a cream tea, but book if you can - wanted to have it in the Great Hall, but it was full. Rooms a little dated, but added to the charm.

"Well positioned for peace and quiet"
Rather unusual hotel - some sort of foreign student business runs from the same address. Everyone on the staff I met was very friendly, whether Finnish, French or Greek. They love to make you cups of tea! Breakfast was puzzling however - I was shown where the kitchen was - very well fitted, huge table - but it was deserted whenever I went there. A sign said it was a do-it-yourself kitchen, and please clear up after you, so very like a hostel. I found some cereal and milk, and there were eggs, but no sign of any bread, or any indication of if you were supposed to buy all your own stuff. As I wasn't travelling by car, it would have been a nuisance to have to go shopping and impossible to pack food to bring. I had cereal and milk, and hoped I wasn't eating someone else's food! Also the room wasn't serviced, so the bin was overflowing after two days. I am over 70, and maybe 'Hotel' means something different to me.However, the room was very reasonably priced, and the place would be great for younger people more used to hostelling. Very handy for the RHDR steam railway.

The hotel was very impressive considering the price. I was not at all expecting the level of comfort that was presented. Staff did seem a little abrupt at times but the room and breakfast were well above expectation.

"Charming bed and breakfast "
We enjoyed our stay at Hope Anchor, the host were all very accommodating and friendly, they were very helpful in figuring train schedule for us and we enjoyed nice conversation in the little pub on site. The room was very clean and comfortable, we had a little apartment with fabulous views. We could easily walk to center of town and to the train station. Very nice in all aspects.

"Peaceful location "
Overall this is a pleasant spacious country house hotel with quiet seated gardens situated around the grounds. Dining too is enhanced in the extended and comfortable orangerie and the pool area is well presented. We enjoyed our evening meal and service was attentive. However, despite the lovely tree lined view from our 'Superior' room we were quite shocked at the state of our bathroom. The hand basin had a large crack. The bath seals at either end were broken and dirty. With the hot tap so close to the end wall, it hit the tile at every turn. Most of the floor tile grouting has deteriorated and was loosened in bits when walked on. The window catch fixing was broken and ready to fall from its moorings. Despite warnings of 'Very hot water' It is in fact extremely boiling hot and just isn't acceptable. When we got up on the first morning of our 2 night stay, the long fixed table was covered in ants which were running from the entrance door skirting along the carpet and up onto the coffee tray. We reported this to Reception but the young lady didn't seem surprised and said she'd get it sorted. But the ants continued to go up to the table and were still there when we left. For Safety reasons I'd also advise they remove the round heavy glass top placed over the round pine 3 legged table. The glass is not fixed and slides off easily if pushed as the table top at an angle. The electric heater inside the wardrobe has one of its 2 legs missing! Time for a serious refurb!!

Winchelsea is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Winchelsea, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Winchelsea hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
