We had originally booked a chain hotel a couple of blocks away, but changed our minds when we saw the deliciously funky Burrard and how it has maintained its hip, heritage 1950’s hotel feel in the midst of downtown’s many skyscrapers, with nice updates and modern touches throughout. The central interior courtyard was a delightful find. You’d never expect to discover palm trees and relative peace and quiet in the midst of the city hubbub, but there you are, sipping your complimentary evening mocktail next to a fire pit, or enjoying a game of ping-pong with other travellers. It’s perfectly situated to Davie Street clubs and shops, and easy walking to probably a hundred excellent restaurants. For perfect sushi ($$) try Tom’s just up Davie, and for top-notch ($$$$) dining, walk a couple of blocks to Hawksworth (hint: go for the business lunch special which makes fine dining affordable for the rest of us). Booking through Expedia got us free secure parking which was a solid bonus.
The inner courtyard is a beautiful and cool respite from the outside world.
The Burrard’s neon sign welcomes travellers as though from another era, when staying at a hotel was a genuinely fun experience.

10 out of 10. Staff is very friendly and whole process was smooth. It's an older building so not modern(still has everything you need. The whole area was a older established neighborhood. I loved it. Gave it character. The courtyard was so cool in the middle. Will be back!

The Burrard was about 10mins from the Port of Vancouver by taxi. It was a very convenient location for us to enjoy our 3 day stay before going on the cruise. The Hop on bus stop was just across the street taking us all around Vancouver city. There are restaurants close by. It is a boutique hotel/motel and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable I would stay there again if I come back to Vancouver city.

We picked this hotel purely for two reasons—lower cost and its downtown location. Most of the surrounding hotels of seemingly comparable quality were more expensive. Plus we wanted a downtown location to simplify a short two and a half day exploration of Vancouver. Based on those criteria we achieved our goal, but there were some limitations that felt obvious as we walked off the elevator into the open air inner courtyard reminiscent of the apartments from The Karate Kid movie. While the green space (see picture) of the courtyard was pleasant enough, the first look at the exterior made it clear the hotel is in dire need of a refresh—paint, floor finishes, exterior cleaning, etc… It “feels” tired. Our room (I suppose all rooms are similar) had a loud portable HVAC unit which made the room feel cramped. Admittedly I realized that a downtown hotel will have street noise, but there were moments that the music from adjacent businesses was quite loud. Lastly, we were concerned with some of the folks who appeared to be living on the street very near the hotel. While we didn’t have any issues, we also did not venture out after dark, so we recommend caution. On the positive side, the staff was very pleasant and helpful. They stored our bags before check-in and after check-out, so we could explore unencumbered. The hotel was conveniently located to take advantage of public transportation.

We needed a post-cruise hotel for one night in Vancouver that wouldn’t break the bank. The Burrard for the bill perfectly. It was convenient, clean, and nicely remodeled. We were able to store our luggage from about 8:30 am until later in the afternoon. To fill the time we did a hop-on/hop/off bus tour. The coffee shop was great, and Burgos pub next door was terrific!
