Comfortable stay at the Best Western Sturgeon Bay

An older motel that is well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The lobby is welcoming with a seating area that has a living room apearance. The cletk who checked us in was very cheerful and friendly. The rooms have large flat screen TVs and spacious refrigerators with a freezer section that is convenient for re-freezing travel ice chest freezer packs. The pool is larger than most indoor motel pools and well maintained. The enclosed lounge/dining area where breakfast is provided is very spacious. The full breakfast was very good and included eggs, sausage, and waffles, bagels, glazed doughnuts, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, and juices. This motel is very well priced for the amenities included.

Secondary entry door from the parking lot did not latch by itself. Had to pulled from inside to latch. Several times entered motel from parking lot without having to use key card. Not very safe!

The check-in process was fine and staff was friendly. But overall the place is rough. The mattress was one of the worst I've slept on and the bathroom door is so hard to open, you panic for a moment that you might be stuck inside. I'm guessing they are working on landscaping because everything on the grounds is just dirt. We thought it was not a good value for the price.

Overall stay

We stayed for 3 nights and we loved the pool and service was pretty good. Breakfast was also good, room was clean with a lot of towels and soap and lotion. Overall if you’re here to stay with ur significant other are just there to get some sleep it’s a good place to stay.

Issues during stay

First off I want to say that the staff was very friendly. They took care off all issues promptly. There were a few unpleasant issues which made our stay feel like we were staying at a low budget, run down motel, but at $225 per night, we expected cleaner and better. When we first arrived we had stains on one of our beds. We called the front desk and they promptly came with new bedsheets. It wasn't a subtle stain. It was very apparent that the person who made the bed wasnt paying attention or didn't care. There were a few smaller issues like the door stopper being broken which didnt bother us that there was a hole in the wall where the door handle hit. No big deal there. The main issue, which is the reason for the review, is the air conditioning unit was extremely loud. It sounded like a rock tumbler. It woke me and my kids up throughout the night. I did turn it off for periods of time, but couldn't leave it off all night due to the outside temperature. The pool and breakfast were nice and the staff was great.

Broken drawer handle, water wouldn’t go down in the bathtub. A lot of Mexican or whatever nationality that must live there, men hanging around the entrances to go I. Smoking and drinking, broken beer bottles and grilling there too. I am sure they are working somewhere but makes it unappealing with all that going on.
