The elevator was unpredictable. Sometimes it worked sometimes not. Either a staff member(if one was around) or my husband had to go find it and send it to the floor I was on. I'm handicapped and had to creep down a flight of stairs at least three times during our stay. The maid service was spotty. Sometimes they cleaned, made the bed etc. and other times didn't show up at all. The staff was generally helpful when they were around. Luckily the elevator always worked when we came in through the basement. The bed was too soft for my husband and he had trouble getting out of it. The self serve breakfasts were very nice with lots of options but several of the tables were too high for the chairs so that one was at heart level when seated. Our room had one chair so one of us had to sit or lie on the bed. TV was great featuring Netflix and a couple other streaming networks. All said I doubt we'll return.

Historic hotel offers a unique experience

This historic, boutique hotel is a gem. Beautiful decor with vivid colors and unique lighting. Lots of comfortable public spaces, including a bar and a kitchen that stays open with yummy cookies, coffee and tea. The buffet breakfast was a lovely presentation of healthy choices and treats. We loved our room with its big windows and fireplace. Can't beat the location-walking distance to restaurants, shops, parks and historic sites so leave your car in the hotel parking lot. The staff also go out of their way to ensure you have a pleasant experience. Highly recommend

The ambiance was otherworldly and nothing like you will get at a traditional hotel. The staff consistently went above and beyond to serve us and the other guests as well, as the common areas were consistently stocked and cleaned as well. I would return in a heart beat and suggest anyone staying in the Portsmouth area to book their stay here.

Beautiful cozy decor, not your typical national Chain hotel. Unique, boho feel, lots of amenities and extras included to make your stay enjoyable. Staff is great. Would stay here again anytime we are in the Portsmouth area!!

We had such a nice relaxing time. From the quaint little bar to the claw foot tub in our room. Everyone that we met was wonderful and made us and our dog very welcomed. It was a home away from home. Will stay again!

Recognizing it’s an older property and while it’s very unique and appealing, there were some quirks: Very tiny bathroom, not that great king mattress (felt a little soft and uneven), seating in room only ok. The positives: Walk-ability, seating and use of inn outside of room, nice breakfast with adequate seating for the time we visited, parking plentiful and safe for time we visited.
