When I was perusing the options for a place to stay in the Newport News area, I was captivated at the idea of staying at a property that was associated with the Hyatt name. I have stayed at Hyatt hotels overseas, and although I knew that Hyatt Place would not feature the same amenities that a Hyatt hotel would, I was excited to stay at a Hyatt brand hotel nonetheless. Upon arrival, we checked into our room and found that the images portrayed on expedia were borderline misleading. Although each image depicted the room, they definitely were carefully chosen to show the most optimistic interpretation of the accommodations. Although the room itself was a letdown, I was prepared to overlook it as there were other appealing aspects of staying at the Hyatt place including a complimentary buffet breakfast. Breakfast started out lukewarm, the selection was underwhelming and definitely paling in comparison to what I have envisioned, but I figured like the room it would serviceable enough to get by on for a few days. However, approximately 10 minutes after my family and I had sat down, and while we were in the middle of eating, the fire alarm went off. It continued sounding the alarm for approximately 20 to 30 minutes during the scheduled breakfast time that day. Most of the guests went outdoors to continue eating as the only thing directing them outside was the unbearable sound. Good Stay

Hotel was clean and breakfast was good. They tried to vary the breakfast offerings every day. I missed having tea/coffee available in the lobby throughout the day like some other hotels. Got woken up twice early by the fire alarm and had ti evacuate, apparently due to toaster incidents in the breakfast dining area. Otherwise it was a very good stay.

I didn’t like that breakfast cooks do not wear gloves to handle food, not proper exchange of spoons and thongs for food. Ladies do not wear gloves while handling food, touching spoons with bare hands . They don’t wear hair nets either My room had significant stains, found one old piece of apple stuck to the wall in between the sofa and wall. Room needs touch up paint

Decent Hotel

1st time at this hotel, front desk associates were friendly, room was clean. The only issue I had was the next morning the fire alarm system malfunction from what i was told & woken many of the customers at 530-6am. I was hoping for compensation for 1 night stay or something. But due to policies I wasnt. Also they allow pets, so my 2nd night i kept hearing 2 barking dogs. So that was disappointing.

Fire alarm went off at 530 am and was still going off 4 hours later... I checked out. This was a big strike 3 after the diner being closed for a power issue and no safe in the room to secure my laptop.
