Not as impressive as the photos

From the view of this property online, I was expecting much more. It is a beautiful old hotel that was renovated not that long ago - but is clearly in need of more work. The interior still feels worn, the rooms in particular. Most disappointingly was the mattress - it was an old spring mattress and our springs were damaged near the top so your head curved downward even when using your pillows (which were also terrible). Overall, for the prices charged here, I wouldn’t go back.

Details are important

The hotel is beautiful, and the location is great, but the AC in our room wasn't working properly, so we couldn't rest. It was a nightmare. Our room had a sofa bed, but no linen in the closet, as usual. We had to wait for someone to come with the pillows and blanket. We had just 2 towels, but we were 3 people in our reservation, so I called again a the next day to get a towel for our son. Just details, easy to fix, but very annoying... My conclusion is that our Suite wasn't ready, but we did check at 4pm, it wasn't an early check in. Maybe they just need more staff to supervise better,

Birthday weekend with the Tennis Legends

Absolutely wonderful Birthday weekend for my wife. Hotel was stunning and staff friendly and very attentive. Seeing Tennis Legends at the Hotel was an added Bonus!

Absolutely loved our stay. The front desk found out it was my daughter’s 18th birthday and they sent us cake. It was a great gesture and made our stay even more special. The hotel is gorgeous and there’s a nice feeling of history that is so fitting for the vibe of Newport.

Coming to Newport for over 15 years and have always stayed at the Viking Hotel. Over the past two years from Covid I believe staffing has become more difficult and more stressful since the quality of employees has dropped significantly. This has been for years an amazing experience but I’m unfortunately will be looking for other locations in my future for Newport.

Our stay at The Viking Hotel was very disappointing. We were placed in a “dog-friendly” room that had visible pee stains on the floor. The room itself was outdated, old, and poorly maintained. Despite the hotel knowing we had a baby with a stroller, they put us down a full flight of stairs with no elevator access, which made things extremely inconvenient. The pool, while nicely designed, was freezing and basically unswimmable. On top of that, valet parking was an unnecessary $45 per day—even though the hotel owns the lot—making it feel like an unjustified extra charge. Overall, the rooms are far too old and in desperate need of renovation. The property does not match the standards or value you’d expect for the price. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend staying here

Property and staff were great. Very convenient to all sights. Free water is nice. However, be aware that parking is $50 per day and there is also a daily $45 resort fee! Not sure if this the case everywhere. Still, great place to stay in Newport.
