This was by far the worst hotel experience we have ever had. The room was filthy, with no soap or toiletries at all. We booked for 5 people, but the extra bed was so bad my kids could not even sleep on it. The most shocking part was the ceiling above the bed — full of moisture, with paint peeling and falling directly on us while we were sleeping. A large piece actually fell into my husband’s eye, causing an infection that has lasted for days and left him unable to drive. This is not just poor service, it is a serious health and safety hazard. On top of that, the toilet was unstable, the facilities were very old, and the entire place felt neglected. The pictures shown on the hotel’s website were completely misleading and did not reflect the reality we faced. I have photos to prove all of this. No one should have to experience such conditions — I would strongly warn other travelers to avoid this hotel until it undergoes major repairs and improvements.

I rented a room here for two nights, I was told a superior king room and by no means was it superior. The bed was lumpy and hard. With heater / air conditioning on, it sounded like someone using a hammer on the wall. When I complained and asked for another room I was told to be out of the room by noon and come back at 3 for another. They were extremely rude at the front desk when I asked to be moved. There is a horrible odor in the building and rooms that’s hardly tolerable. I’ll never return to this place. I wish I could post a picture of the trash and disgusting courtyard outside my window

It was a nice hotel, but there was no access to the pool for handicap. You had to walk up a flight of stairs. The overall look of the hotel is nice, however, the wallpaper on the room floors was creepy- especially with the “shining movie” type low light in the hallway lol

Great property in Manhattan for a good price!! Read some of the other reviews and had some concerns but I was completely satisfied with my stay at the Empire. Room is small but to be expected for New York. Property was clean and we felt safe while staying there. Staff were helpful and we would definitely stay here again.

A delightful, comfortable stay in the heart of Manhattan. The Empire Hotel’s location is unbeatable—nestled near Columbus Circle and the Upper West Side, it offers easy access to Central Park, Lincoln Center, and Broadway. The lobby is a visual treat, with striking artwork on the second floor and plenty of lounge chairs for relaxing or people-watching. Our standard room was compact but manageable for two travelers. While the bathroom door handle was a bit finicky (closing it required a noisy bang), and the carpets showed some wear with a faint mustiness in the hallways, these were minor quirks in an otherwise pleasant experience. What truly elevated our stay was the staff—bellhops, housekeeping, and front desk were all exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Having convenient access to the Empire Rooftop Hotel and Bar (with a reservation) was a bonus, offering a stylish spot to unwind above the city. Overall, a solid choice for anyone seeking a central, character-rich hotel with great service and a touch of old New York flair.
