DO NOT BOOK HERE, SAVE YOUR MONEY.
This place looks like death warmed up. So appalling I didn't even stay here. The sleeping quarters that were visible from the car park had curtains with yellow staining up the back of them, with half of the rooms looking like the curtains were going to fall off any moment. TBH this place could be a perfect location for a dirty brothel. No way was I going to be staying in this Hotel. The whole outside appearance of the hotel is shabby to say the least, even the flag poles looked a sorry state. The only thing that looked new was the sign by the road naming the Hotel "Life Hotel". If only the owners would pay more attention to the rest of the business.
Hotel was good for the price and it was clean. would highly recommend others!

DIFFICULTY IN FINDING THE HOTEL
I thought I had booked into the Palms Hotel. However there was no visible sign for the Palms Hotel from the Southend Road going past the hotel. All I could see was "Life Hotels". So I drove past it and had to go round the circuit, which, because of the heavy traffic , took another 10 minutes. May I respectfuly suggest that a well lit sign, saying "PALMS HOTEL", is put up near the turning into the hotel car park, so it can easily be seen by prospective hotel residents from their cars. The alternative is to change the name of the hotel to "PALMS LIFE HOTEL" on the internet booking site.

palm hotel
Same standard as a travel lodge the staff are very friendly - basic amenities - could do with changing outside sign misleading when looking for palm hotels and you see another name
To be honest I cnt blv this hotel passes the health and hygiene standards! I was suppose 2 stay for 2 days, I ended up coming bak after 2 hours! yuk!!! as soon s i entered the hotel it smelt of unrine. It was just filthy if i was to give you details I would be here all day. Just a word of advice dont waste your money on this hotel, doesnt matter how much you get it for. I wouldnt spend 1 night in it for free. The man at the reception was nice but maybe if smiles could clean then it would be a good hotel!
Without doubt the worst hotel experience I have ever had. On arrival I thought it was actually a derelict building, in hindsight I wish it had been! At least I could have stayed somewhere else. The conditions inside were worse, it was dirty, damaged and totally inhospitable. This place should be condemned!
Regarding another earlier review. Absolutely spot on with Oh Dear. I had a similar experience thinking the hotel had closed down, drove by it three times thinking it didn't look like the photographs on the website; and would have gone along with that only to find a few cars parked outside. Either guests or demolition men!
The hotel was in desperate need of some maintenance and a lick of paint. It appears the owners (Indian I believe, who have other interests) weren't interested in promoting the hotel and it sounds like they could be winding it down for one reason or another...maybe selling on for the land? The staff were very friendly and helpful, but obviously their moral was rock bottom and that was reflected in that the bar area (had no hand pull beer) only tins at £2.00 a go, and a few spirits (southern comfort and lemonade £4.00 +). I chose not to eat there as not many guests were in and therefore didn't know how fresh it was likely to be. Similarly the same at breakfast. all this being said the hotel does have potential if the owners spend a few hundred thousand on it. Until that time perhaps give it a miss!!
When we came to the hotel we found the towels were not clean at all so had to as for new towels. The quality of the mattress was absolutely rubbish and very dirty. The photos on their website for the hotel is very misleading as it is completely different once you enter the room. Bathroom was dirty and had no soap.
The milk provided in the room was off so had to request for new milk.
After all I would not recommend this hotel. The hotel should be graded as 1 star not 3 star.
Well, what can I say? I drove past the hotel at first, ignoring my Sat Nav as it looked like this place had closed down. Grass was growing so high it was licking the windows and the net curtains in the windows all look like they need a damned good wash, which upon inspection when I arrived was about right! I therefore telephoned to gain directions and was greeted by a very abrupt person who confirmed, yes that was the hotel!!! Upon arrival Check-in was efficient but the place felt cold and unclean and had a certain aroma about the place which was stale. I went to my room and it all felt very grubby and had the same stale smell... I even found some long hair in the bathroon sink plughole and round the taps - Nice touch!! I looked out the bedroom window and there were 4 old baths just thrown out the back, rusting with grass growing around them. Glad I only stayed 1 night..... will choose more wisely next time unless the hotel has a MAJOR overhaul.
Rates were okay ,but as it was a late booking i wasnt expecting anything fantanstic. However on my entrance to my room, a number of LARGE moths were flying around which I had to get rid of .
Next morning when I got up & looked out the window (1st time I'd seen in the light as I arrived late& was dark) the grass was very over grown, with old baths & windows all over the place .
Also found it very noisy as the doors didnt have closers on.
Also on the whole a quiet scruffy & dirty room , as I said i wasnt expecting a pent house but it wasnt even clean.
This hotel, firstly should not call itself a hotel and secondly should be shut down or demolished! Please never stay here, even when desperate..... Travel the extra miles!
• mold in room
• room smelt badly of said mold!
• room overlooked "courtyard" which was over grown jungle with mattresses, bath tubs and window panes.
• stains on bed sheets
• it looks like there has been no refurb to this hotel in close on a decade
• PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!
The staff were very friendly, however the hotel was aweful. At first I drove past the hotel as I thought it had closed down due to the weads at the front of the hotel covering the entrance and the general shabby look of the outside. Once inside the reception and bar area looked nice, however the room was basic and shabby, in fact I had to check the sheets (which were clean!) and considered driving another 4 hours to go home!
Hotel seems to be undergoing renovations so hopefully the rooms will get a makeover. Wallpaper was peeling. I was one of the few guests there but the staff were friendly and the bar food was basic but okay. Fine for a one night stay but probably wouldn't want to stay here for the whole week. Reasonable value and fairly easy to get to.
The hotel itself was poor in looks, reminded me of the TV program crossroads and looked no different to the hotel back then. When I ordered a chicken and mushroom pie, I received steak and kidney, say no more!
A new sign and a pot of paint doesn't make a renovation, I've had to stay here in the past and quite frankly it has never improved, the corridor near the room has an odour which well lets call it unpleasant and the rooms are very worn and dirty. The price may attract some but all I can say is either splash out a little more or find a travelodge
We stayed on a saturday night and found it was a very good price, in our oppinion you need a car to get to the accomodation as it is set on the duel carageway in a difficult position, it is not clearly signposted so hard to find at night or in bad weather as we experianced and drove past it 3 times, it is hidden behind some trees and is low rise looking more like residential flats also it is not written on the buildeing as palms hotel/ hospitality it just says hotel and conference then a small sign says palm club which you would not see from the main road, apart from this check in was good, its a bit of a maze but clean comfy rooms with everything you need for a nights stay, i would go back as its good value for money n now know how to find it :)
Shabby and run down hotel in urgent need of refurbishment/demolition.
Decor does not appear to have been updated since 70's and the bathroom/shower facilities would be a higher standard in a local pub football teams hanging room.
The room although clean (in one sense) was grimy and just felt dirty - you were hesitant in touching any of the furniture or fixtures/fittings. The double bed was small and the sheet underneath had a big yellow stain. The hotel looks like a council estate, and their is a club very close by and therefore you get noise from the other rooms throughout the night. Very very dissapointed - if I had know it was that bad I would have gladly paid an additional £10-20 and stayed in Holiday Inn express or Travelodge. To add to all this misery we both got bit during the night by - would you believe it Bedbugs!.
