Sure, Grapevine is spitting distance from both Dallas and Fort Worth, but there’s plenty of reason to make this entertaining enclave a weekend destination all its own. Start by strolling the historic downtown, stop for a wine tasting or a boutique buy, then head out for more active pursuits.
By far the biggest area attraction is the Vintage Railroad, a steam train ride from town to the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Historical Society Museum and blacksmith shop mine a similar nostalgic vein. Just north of the city, Grapevine Lake offers boating and swimming. Locals flock to the indoor-outdoor waterpark at Great Wolf Lodge and to Gaylord Texan resort, with its sprawling atrium that imitates San Antonio’s Riverwalk, complete with restaurants and bar stands.
Something is always going on in Grapevine. Fridays in summer means firework fun, wine is celebrated year round, and come December, the area goes Christmas crazy with lights, shows, parades, tours and more. With so much happening, you may not even miss the miss the Metroplex next door.
