"Average at best"
The room was clean but had a moldy odor, when I turned on the air conditioner the older seem to dissipate after awhile.

"Stay Here!"
Easy check in. The staff was very friendly. The room was clean, smelled great, and appeared to be recently renovated. I am very impressed by this hotel...over the years I have had bad experiences at some 4star facilities, but didn't have any problems with this hotel. The rooms and lobby are all well kept and clean. Shopping nearby, restaurants nearby. Highly rated. The customer ratings are high, and correct on this Hotel.

"3 moms 9 kids"
Myself and 2 friends recently met in Birmingham to explore the city with our children. None of us were very familiar with the city and I just happened to stumble upon Drury for our stay. I liked he fact that it had complimentary breakfast and an indoor/outdoor pool. To my surprise when I checked in there was dinner being served in the lobby. The receptionist explained to me that there was also a complimentary dinner served every night along with adult beverages for us moms. This was a great asset to our stay because we did not have to think about what we were going to eat for dinner. The only complaint I have is that housekeeping never cleaned our rooms. The only thing we really needed was the garbage taken out and more towels. I had to call downstairs and they came right up which was nice. I would definitely stay here again.

"Convenient location "
We stayed over the pool which was crazy loud with kids and adults having fun. Our bedroom was quiet! It was nice to have the balcony off the bedroom.

"Great staff, clean rooms"
This hotel is historic and vintage with great decor. The rooms are cozy but clean. The only thing I lacked was a mini-fridge in the room, but the staff were very accomdating and allowed me to store my insulin in the fridge behind the desk. Parking is over-priced, so we just parked in the public lot behind the hotel. The parking elevator went right down to the back door of the hotel. Complimentary breakfast was excellent and it was walking distance to our concert venue. They are currently being renovated, I hope they do not lose the charm of the Highland in doing so.

"Nice hotel close to our event"
We came to AL from MN for a wedding. We enjoyed our stay, but beware there is a $12 parking fee every day. For 4 nights that added up to an unexpected cost that was not clear on the web site. When doing price comparisons that is not disclosed.

"Not bad, but there's room for improvement"
This was my first time at a La Quinta, and I booked there because it takes pets. this is a terrific service to provide for travelers, so kudos to La Quinta on this point. Another kudos is that despite the large number of other travelers with pets, there are no odors anywhere, and noise was minimal. It's a very decent place to stay if you're traveling with pets. At this particular La Quinta, with the exception of the pool guy, a woman laundry worker, the breakfast ladies, and the man who kept the outdoor area tidy, the staff was only minimally friendly and outgoing. The hotel uses an odd division of labor re room care, which leaves lots of room for things being left undone. Of our 6 nights, we had full room care---clean towels, bathroom cleaned, beds made, wastebaskets emptied--only two times. One thing or another was always missed. This happened despite a trip to the front desk to let them know some things weren't getting done. Considering how late in the day (5:00) some rooms were being cleaned, I'd say the place was seriously understaffed. Breakfast choices didn't always include fresh fruit beyond red apples. Other than packaged oatmeal, whole grain food didn't exist, but a lot of trans fat food did. It was a challenge to put together a healthy breakfast. There's room for improvement at this La Quinta, but the room was comfortable, the noise minimal, and the hotel's layout was pleasing.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
