Great overall value, staff, and service. The rooms are a bit small and basic, but the overall atmosphere at the Royal Scots Club made it feel special.

Wonderful "I'll be at my club" vibes. Location is walkable to so much of New and Old Town with a wealth of cafés, restaurants, and interesting small, local stores within minutes. Room was very comfortable with good space for two.

Historic and authentic Scottish, charming place. But a bit concerning that you have to use a key to lock yourself in at night, which would be dicey if there was a fire and you had to struggle with finding and using the old skeleton key to get out. When you leave the hotel for the day, they want you to leave the key at the desk and retrieve it when you return. Also, our room was below ground level and smelled a little musty.

If you are into Scottish military history, this is the perfect hotel. I found it a bit stuffy and snooty. My room felt like it was in the bowels of the hotel and finding your way was a challenge - lots of levels, corridors and doors. On a positive note, hotel was clean and comfortable and they served a nice breakfast. I enjoyed reading in the lounge area. Great location on a beautiful street. Just wasn’t a good fit for me.

Loved this place. Big room, great staff, nice bar/lounge area. Easy walk to old town and the castle (1/2 to 3/4 of a mile). Neat place! Room could use a small frig for meds etc.

Grand, old world place to stay.

This Hotel co-exists as The Royal Scots Club, and was a fascinating place to stay. The standard double room we had had a large bed and bathroom, and was very spacious. It was on the basement floor, just below street level, where lot of the Club's facilities were. The dining room was elegant, and we had both dinner and breakfast there. Nice food and service. The reception staff were nice too. The Club is in a quieter atea of Edinburgh, but not too far from things to see.

Great option in convenient but calmer location

Quieter setting than being in Old Town, but a short walk from this charming buildings Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was good. Only negative was shower pressure/temperature adjustment, where the water stayed hotter than I would have liked.

It’s definitely dated but the location was perfect. Room was small. Towel warmer in bathroom didn’t work and coffee pot hadn’t been cleaned-nor the Nespresso dispenser. Breakfast was good. We would book again, but I would try for different area of club.

Disastrous honeymoon

We booked 4 nights for our honeymoon. We expected an average stay at a reasonable price, with a historical/bed and breakfast vibe. The entrance & common areas reflected that expectation. As we made our way to our room, it changes. The walk to our room required multiple stairs, turns, and 4-5 doors. It was unbelievable, like we were inside a maze. The room was incredibly small. Terrible view, furnishings were old, musty, outdated. The worst part of our stay was our "bumpy lumpy" bed. Late in the evening of our 1st (and only) night, my husband went to the lobby and explained that it was our honeymoon. Obviously he asked if we could upgrade or if anything could be done for us. He was told they were "completely sold out". Then he was told that if we wanted to make any changes to our reservation, we needed to call Hotels.com because our booking was through them. That's fair, but I wish we had been treated a little better considering it was our honeymoon. Ultimately we just wanted to check-out early without getting penalized for the remainder of our stay. I mean, if they were "completely sold out" then they should be happy to have a free room back, right? When we finally checked out, the woman at the desk was strange, off-putting. We were very civil, never carried on or complained or yelled but finally we simply said, we just could not get any rest on that bed. She said nothing. We left for a Hilton and never got a follow-up from a manager.
