The Principal York is a beautiful, old building that has been very well modernized with all the features and conveniences you would expect of a high end establishment. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were a little disappointed that our room was located not in the main part of the hotel but rather in the basement of the extension and this meant quite a long trudge from reception or the main entrance and the view from the room was virtually non existent. Given that it was Christmas Week, perhaps we should have expected this!

We stayed for three nights, and found the Hotel faultless. It is currently extending, and so there will be a new part and an old part. As we dame for the unique old building, on return, we will ask if we can be in the old part, as it has such great character. However, for those who prefer a modern building, they may chose to be in the new addition, once completed.
