A great hotel

The lobby of the hotel was great, everything is on one floor so handy if you're disabled. None of those tiny flights of stairs. Swimming pool was fantastic. There's a great kids play room in the lobby which is handy if you want a drink and the kids to entertain themselves. The room was modern and comfortable. My only complaint is that in terms of window the whole room just had one tiny window but a pretty minor complaint. The bathroom was clean and comfortable with good hot water pressure. I would definitely come back.

Confortable stay

Confortable stay in a room set up with a pop up bed for my teenage daughter. Only recommendation is the room could do with a deep clean. Nice walk along the river to town. Parking on site is convenient and is open air (didn’t have to worry about having our van in the centre of town!). Would stay again.

Overall, a lovely stay. Two quibbles: 1. Having to pay for parking at £17 per night when you're already paying £200+ for a room 2. The shape of the sinks in the room don't lend themselves to anything in them going down the plug hole e.g. spit, toothpaste and shaving detritus.

Oh dear, what is going on here Novotel? You used to be a trusted high quality chain but I am not sure anymore. The grounds of the hotel and the lobby is modern, stylish and well looked after. The staff was courteous and lovely... BUT that's all the positives I can say. The breakfast is well packaged but mediocre to a 4 star hotel. The room we stayed in was awful. Dirt and dust rolled off the wall. The carpet was soiled all over. The bathroom was disfunctional smelly and flooded all the time. The bed was like a rock and the bedding old. The communal areas are dingy and dirty. This is a property which hasn't been looked after a long time. Please do better Novotel. Please do justice to the wonderful York and your dedicated staff members.

Issue at check in

We have stayed at this hotel many times and always highly recommend it. Our visit this time was spoiled slightly by our check in experience at the hotel. For background, I booked this at short notice (2/3 days beforehand). Confirmation from Hotels.com stated check in time as 4.30pm. I completed the online check in form (from Novotel itself) the day before our stay, as requested. This asked for your estimated time of arrival as you can arrive before your stated check in time (to leave luggage/ use the car park etc). The form stated rooms would be ready from 3.00pm. I confirmed our arrival time as between noon and 3.00pm. We arrived around 2.00pm and were told at reception that our room would not be available for 3.00pm but it would be ready no later than 3.30pm. We were ok with this. We went for a walk into York and returned to the hotel at 3.50pm. On arrival we were told we could not check in until 4.30pm as we were not Accor members and the 3.00pm check in is only available to such members (we are members but hadn't use the app for this booking). I acknowledged this but stated we had been told twice (once on the online form and once at reception) we could get in before 4.30pm. The receptionist did try to find us a room and gave us keys for a room on the first floor. We were grateful for this and made our way to the room. On entering, we discovered it was already occupied! Eventually, everything was sorted out but not a great start to our break. Otherwise, all ok.

Disappointing stay.

Unfortunately for my 4th stay at the hotel I'm down rating my scores. The bed was rock solid and very uncomfortable, the room was next to the lift and stair well so got the noise from that through the night. Although we were there for 3 nights the room was only serviced once. Not the best stay and I'm very disappointed because i have raved about this hotel to friends and family
