"Quaint and exotic"
Considering that this hotel has only been open for 15 days, I think they did a great job. This is a boutique hotel, small and comfortable, decorated with antique style. It's in Zona Colonial where the city of Santo Domingo is determined to preserve this colonial area. Three blocks from "Conde" which is the main walkway through the "Commercial" part of Zona Colonial where there are most of the shops and restaurants. Hotel Isabela de Catolica is on a small though well known street where there is little automobile traffic and it is nice and quiet in the evenings.

"Intimate, perfect location, friendly staff."
The Hotel Portes is a small hotel in a quiet corner of the Colonial Zone. It fronts a small park, and, because it is not directly on the street, has no through-traffic which makes it quiet. It feels a little bit removed from the main tourist area, even though it is just three blocks from the main Cathedral and the Parque Colon; the location is really terrific. I found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. It helps to speak some Spanish, of course. Breakfast is cooked to order, which is nice; I asked for, and received, extra towels; wifi was strong and consistent. In short, it is a really solid place to stay. If you do stay there, please keep your expectations reasonable; the Dominican Republic is still a Third-World country, so if you want the Hilton, go there instead. My room safe was not big enough to fit my laptop; the electricity failed twice during my stay; my shower had only hot (!) water, no cold; my toilet did not always refill so I flushed it with a bucket of water; the bathroom door did not fit the opening so privacy would have been impossible. If little annoyances like these are going to wreck your day, choose another hotel. But if you like the idea of a quiet little gem, perfectly located and staffed with friendly people, give this one a try.

"Beautiful architecture with hotel in excellent loc"
Loved the historic hotel. Location near many sights yet fairly quiet. Facilities are good. If you need a lot of quest this is a drawback, as the sound travels in the hotel. Staff is super friendly.

"GREAT LOCATION, BUT NEEDS RENOVATION."
I stayed here for 1 night, and though the location was spectacular, the hotel is definitely showing its age. It could use some major renovations, in particular in the bathroom section. Aside from my displease with the bathroom's aesthetics, the stay was fine, and I would probably stay there again in the future.

"Promising option in the Zona"
There is so much to like about this hotel that I want to write a better review of our experience there. Unfortunately, it didn't start so well. We arrived early, at about 13:15 and were not really expecting our room to be available (check in is 15:00). After a warm welcome greeting, we left our bags and went looking for lunch. When we returned a bit after 16:00, the room was not ready and the gentleman who was now at the reception desk did not provide much information about what to expect regarding a wait. Our conversation was interrupted by another guest with a problem. I wish he would have finished providing us information and asked the interrupting guest to wait a moment. We waited, without any reassurances or other communication for about 30 minutes. Once in the room, I wanted to look out on the balcony that we had paid a bit extra for. The view of the 16th century was exactly like the picture but the balcony was a bit of a surprise. I estimate that it was not more than 1 meter deep. It could have held 2 small chairs and a very small table but did not. In the end, there was very little benefit to the balcony other than the natural light from the doors to it. I found the rooftop bar/restaurant marginally operational late that afternoon. The gentleman who served my beverage wanted me to close my bill with cash but was unable to change my 500 peso note for the 160 peso drink. In the end, he asked me to sign the bill. I loved the breakfast.

"Nice Hotel"
This was my 1st trip to the Dominican Rep. When I 1st arrived at the hotel, I was a little shocked when looking at the building. It was not what I was use to in a hotel like the Marriott or the Holiday Inn. I knocked for around 5 minutes, then Kevin, came to the door apologizing because he was changing clothes. After that, my attitude totally became a very pleasure experience. My room was being cleaned when I arrived, but I hadn't eaten yet, so Kevin directly me to the location of several eateries in the area and guaranteed me that my room would be ready when I returned, which it was. I was in room #5 and I loved it. Very intimate setting. The rooms were small, but very clean, hot water and A/C worked great. There is a roof top terrace which overlooks parts of the city. The bed are a little on the firm side, but the location of the hotel in excellent, only 2 blocks from the main street, El Conde. You will love this place, very quiet at night and peaceful. I will definitely stay here again.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Calle Las Damas hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
