The property is in a good quaint location and the staff was very polite. It seems like it has gone through renovation but you can tell that the rooms still needed more work (the door had holes from where the old lock was, the toilet didn’t flush well etc). I think the property has some neglect from the corporate or perhaps there are some planning issues on site. Even though there was kitchen, there were no paper or regular kitchen towels - the staff said they were out. No pots, hardly anything in the kitchen cabinets. The fridge door was put on the wrong way and almost hitting the door lock when trying to open it. The wifi was sketchy at best, we tried to watch a movie but it kept getting interrupted due to poor wifi. Ice machine wasn’t working and could only dispense water. I brought all this to the staff at the front desk but they couldn’t do anything except to note those things. Overall, I think the hotel has potential but it needs more attention either from the corporate or on site - they need to bring in a solid maintenance guy for a day or two plus IT guy or gal and just have a good walkthrough and fix things. Big plus - no carpet in the room, I liked that very much.

The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming from the moment I arrived, which made a great first impression. When my flight was moved up, I called ahead to ask about early check-in, and they kindly accommodated my request without any issues. The hotel’s location is very convenient, with several restaurants within walking distance and a Walmart nearby for any essentials. The breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of options that satisfied different tastes. However, I’m giving this stay 4 stars instead of 5 due to a strong cigarette smell in the room, which affected my overall comfort. With better room ventilation or a stricter no-smoking policy, this hotel would easily deserve a top rating.

Good stay, pleasant staff

My wife and I stayed one night at this Sonesta hotel. We received a friendly greeting at the front desk and had a very easy check in. Every one of the employees was friendly and polite, often asking if they could help us in any way. Our room was a little worn but very clean. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and well stocked with towels and toiletries. The floor lamp did not work and the desk lamp had a very loose arm for the bulb. I reported these issues to the desk clerk while checking out and a second employee was also writing notes about the issues. The breakfast was better than most with an attendant in the room all the time. They offered cereals, muffins, and other pastries as well as tortillas to make breakfast burritos with eggs, loose sausage, cheese, and other condiments. There is no waffle iron but an automatic machine made great pancakes! If we return to Birmingham we will stay at this hotel and will look for other Sonesta locations in other cities.

Roomy, friendly and great brekkie

Fantastic breakfast, loads of choice. Very helpful and friendly staff. Fully equipped spacious rooms with comfy bed. On the downside, the rooms were old and tired looking, they need money spending on them to modernise and brighten up.
