First impressions of the hotel were really good. The staff in the restaurant who handled the check-in were very friendly, and on walking into the room, it looked really nice. However, during our stay we found it to be a lot of style over substance with a real lack of attention to detail. For example, the rooms have Smeg kettles and tea and coffee is provided, but there are no teaspoons, milk or sugar. I appreciate that it is an old building, but it has clearly been refurbished, so why are there so few sockets and why are they in such inconvenient locations? Why were the lamps not working on arrival? We did work out that some of the bedside lamps could be charged using a phone charger, but we also had a plug-in bedside lamp which did not work and a dead bulb in one of the ceiling lights. One room, despite being quite spacious, had no chair. The only place to sit was on the bed. In one of the rooms, the hairdryer was falling apart. Why, during the online check-in procedure, was I asked for a credit card number for extras when there are no extras on offer? If we had eaten in the restaurant, we would have paid our bill in the same way as every other customer. There was also a stale smell in the rooms, and especially on the stairs. It wouldn't take much to change my opinion of this hotel, but the lack of attention to detail really let it down.

Very lively area with lots of cafes and restaurants, shops and supermarket close by. Well located. Stairs are challenging for older guests but it’s an old building so to be expected. Staff very helpful with check in and carried bags upstairs which was much appreciated after a very long flight.

We enjoyed this stay very much, excellent customer service, specially Roy, he helped us with our luggage, the coffee shop across the street that we get our free coffee and croissants was really great good coffee and super nice people attending it!! We have the best memories from Amsterdam, if we come back again, we stay in Calisto hotel for sure !!

This is definitely a small boutique hotel, but it has everything you might need. The room was small but clean, and the bed was comfy. The area the hotel is in feels very safe, and is pretty close to public transportation. The staff was friendly and responsive. The restaurant downstairs is delicious! Fancy wine-bar vibes, but the food is great.

The rooms were clean but small. The stairway to the floors were winding and narrow. However, the staff did carry the luggage up and down for us. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

What a great place to stay while in Amsterdam! CiCi held my bags in the restaurant while I viewed the city....I then came back to a clean, quiet, cool room. (Other than the steep stairs - which is par for any Dutch city! I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Pleasant hotel. Slightly wonky layout in the room, but everything was there. My room was at the back, so fairly quiet. You get a voucher and two pastries from the cafe across the road, though as this doesn't open until 9am, not an option if you need to leave early. I didn't, and can recommend the pub just down the road, De Oranjerie, which has an excellent beer range and opens late

Absolutely stunning room and very comfortable bed. Great location, a 10 min walk from the central station. The hotel allowed us to leave our bags at the begining and end of our stay so we could explore. It was a very hot night but an easy to operate air cooler was provided. Some noise from the street but that is to be expected given the amazing location. Would happily stay again! Gutted our stay was only 1 night. To top it off, we had vouchers for coffee and pastry from Good Beans across the street and it was lovely, great way to start the day. The cheese and mustard was delicious!

The staff at this hotel were absolutely wonderful—friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The location is also fantastic, with easy access to nearby attractions and a great local vibe. We really enjoyed the on-site restaurant; the food was excellent and the service top-notch. That said, there were a couple of things that could be improved. Upon check-in, we found a clothing label on the bathroom floor, which made us question the thoroughness of the room cleaning. Also, Saturday night was quite noisy, with loud music and vibrations from the sound carrying into the room—something to be aware of if you’re a light sleeper. Overall, despite those minor issues, we had a pleasant stay thanks to the great staff and atmosphere.
