It is a very historical building and has some of the quirks of history. We liked it…charm & character. It needs to be made clear there is no elevator. We were fine but other would have problems if they had mobility issues. There was an odour from our toilet that neeeded to be addressed but staff were willing to address this.

Best part is the hotel is haunted by the ghost of the great painter, Emily Carr. It is the heritage building where she passed away😃 the staff are wonderful!

I was in Victoria attending a conference and chose the James Bay Inn as an affordable alternative to the hotels next to the convention centre. The walk to the convention centre was about 10 minutes and quite scenic. Check in was accommodated early which was not guaranteed but greatly appreciated. The room was quite basic in nature but very clean. The bed was firmer than I typically like but not uncomfortable. Additional toiletries were happily provided upon request. The restaurant beneath the hotel was quite hit or miss. The eggs Benedict was great. The traditional Canadian breakfast was fully deep fried and not to my liking. The lunch specials tended to be OK. Restaurant service, over all, was quick and pleasant. There are A LOT of stairs in this hotel with no lifts or mobility aids. The staff were quite helpful carrying bags but anyone with mobility concerns should avoid this property. There is also no air conditioning which would be a deal breaker for me in the summer. For a spring stay though, it was fine with the window open.

The staff was very friendly and the property was well maintained in a quiet residential neighborhood. We stayed in the cottage so we had our own parking. The location was behind the legislative building, shopping and dining was within walking distance. Great location, would stay here again.

Very friendly and obliging staff. Clothes storage very limited and would like to see a mirror in the bedroom and possibly a small table or unit in the bathroom for toiletries. We still enjoyed our stay and location was perfect with a short stroll to the waterfront and off street parking. Thankyou!

Roy and the staff were very nice and helpful! Great coffee. Our group of 7 really enjoyed the lobby. Coffee and iced lemon water was excellent as well as the food in the adjoining restaurant.

Lovely historic hotel in quiet neighborhood. Easy walking distance to main attractions. Staff very friendly and accommodating. No air condition but they provide fan and with the window open you get a nice breeze and wake up to chirping birds. Hotel restaurant was very good and reasonably priced.Free parking is a plus. Loved our stay and will be back again! Very clean!

A spacious apartment with a well equipped kitchen, separate bedroom, and dining area overlooking a lovely garden. There was a comfortable leather couch and 2 comfortable chairs, an electric fireplace which was perfect to take the chill off and a large TV. The space had all the comforts of home and was located in a quiet neighborhood just a 10 minute walk from the parliament buildings, the wharf, and shops. There was a good grocery store and liquor store just a block away. We loved the ambiance and staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return if we ever go back to Victoria.

A great gem with character!

The location of this hotel is fantastic! It is one block from Beacon Hill Park with quiet streets, lots of flowers and an old fashion decor. The room was roomy with two queen beds, chairs to sit on include a desk with a large chair. Very much enjoyed our stay. We are semi regular guests at this grand old hotel.
