The two bedroomed cottage was surprisingly bigger than expected with two spacious rooms. It had great off street parking. It was very clean and tidy and well equipped. James Bay Hotel is very well situated in a very lovely part of Victoria and a lot if the main attractions to see in Victoria are within walking distance. I would highly recommend. A d a big shout out to Anmol who greeted us with her big smile and wirh humour. It's just what we needed after a long, tiring day of driving.

Beautiful historic hotel in the middle of a gorgeous neighborhood. A few short blocks to downtown so very walkable. Staff were also excellent - very friendly and engaging and helpful! Restaurant on site was great too! No AC so a bit warm on the warm days and no elevator so be prepared to lug your luggage up stairs. And it’s a busy place so mornings are loud if you’ve got windows open. We loved it though and will definitely be back!

Beautiful very large corner room (#315) with windows on both sides. Walk to Empress in about 10-15 minutes. Friendly staff. Great historic Inn.

Lovely place to stay

We loved this property. The studio had great facilities and a lovely terrace. The hotel is located in a quiet residential area, but close enough to walk to Victorias attractions

Pros: I like that the staff especially the manager are all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant and pub was a plus for us. It's located down stairs. Location was great which was walking distance to everything. It was safe to walk. Cons: The building is old (1911) and it smells old. Interior are all old with minimal upgrades. There's no elevator and AC so be prepared to haul all your belongings to your room. To be fair they did include that issue on their website and they are willing to help you carry your luggage to your room. As for the AC, it would have not been a big deal since they provide electric fans. The problem is if you open the windows all kinds of bugs will enter your room because there are no screen. We arrived finding a dead wasp in our bathroom and 3 bees also came in the bathroom. Then, there's this bad smell when we entered our room. It lingers near the entrance and sink. No amount of air freshener helped. Mind you the sink is outside the bathroom. If you want a hair dryer you have to ask for it at their counter. ***So, if you are after nostalgia and historical buildings then this is a great place for you. Just be aware of the "inconvenience" you'll encounter.

It is a cute hotel in a quiet neighbourhood, just a quick walk from downtown. The room was clean and comfortable with beautiful wood furnishings. The staff are friendly and helpful. This little hotel has a lot of charm. I would happily stay here again!

Nice Property in Convenient Location

Lovely older property just blocks to Inner Harbor and Beacon Hill Park. Staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant and Pub on site. No A/C but not often needed in the PNW.

Neat historic landmark. We like a hotel that has some history and personality. Kind of like us at our age. The pub downstairs was a nice place to get some drinks and food. The seafood chowder and Tibetan bowl were delicious. Staff was great, too.

Excellent stay

Hotel staff were very welcoming and willing to offer help. It is located in a quiet, convenient location for the main tourist area. Hotel has character, not a modern box. Breakfast and evening meals were good.

Loved our stay - this hotel has so much personality. Great location, pub and cafe in basement, secure bike storage, able to store luggage before and after checkout. Only downside is no AC so I think the rooms would likely be hot to sleep in during full summer
