We absolutely loved Riad El Yacout. This is my 4th visit to Morocco over the years, across different cities in this beautiful country, and this is honestly the best place I have stayed so far (even in comparison to 4- or 5-star hotels that I used in my previous trips). It’s very clean, very nicely decorated in authentic and traditional Moroccan style, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is extremely nice, courteous and professional and they really go out of their way to make guests feel warmly welcome and at home. They serve a delicious and very generous breakfast, and always do it with a very warm welcome in the morning and a friendly smile. The location in the Medina is probably more suitable for tourists than business travelers. But this worked perfectly for us as we were on a family vacation and, if you have plenty of time (which we did) and you are patient enough to navigate the huge labyrinth of the Fes Medina (which we were), it’s actually a wonderful location to experience the culture, history and vibrancy of this great city. If we ever come back to Fes, which is likely, Riad El Yacout will definitely be our first choice as a place to stay. Till next time, Choukrane Jazzilane!

Be prepared: the riad is in the middle of the Medina with LOTS of winding roads and dead ends. Even with a map you will likely get lost. It also means taxis cannot get to the riad. High pressure to buy dinner as soon as I arrived that turned me off and then again for a tour even though I said I had one booked. No front door key provided so had to knock/ring to get in. Room was on main floor so could hear people talking in the lobby area. Breakfast was breads with offer of one egg cooked to order

We stayed at Riad Layla (suite Alia) for three nights. The place is beautiful and within Fes Medina. Breakfast was served on the terrace which we quite enjoyed. Our room was spacious, well maintained, clean and beautifully decorated. Even the bathroom was very aesthetically pleasing. The suite is on the top floor so might not be convenient for some people but apart from that, everything was amazing. The staff were also incredibly nice! On our last day we had to depart at 6AM and one of the staff members very kindly and thoughtfully packed us breakfast! We ordered food through a delivery app and missed the driver’s call, he was kind enough to collect the food and bring it upstairs for us. All in all it was a very comfortable stay. Would recommend.

I had a lovely short stay in the Riad with my family. With 3 adults and two little children, the bunk beds added lots of excitement ! The owner and staff onsite are incredibly welcoming and kind. The Moroccan breakfast was delicious, generous and so pleasant as we were sat in the quiet patio on a clear and bright day. The Riad itself is an authentic small riad typical of the Moroccan old towns (Medina) -it’s been kept simple with no sophistication but in very good shape. It’s not very difficult to access just trust Google Maps or contact the owner for the live location share. As it’s in the heart of the old town there are several dining options nearby.

The Fes medina is a sensory buffet of smells, beautiful craftwork, people and sounds. This homestay (Expedia should not really classify it as a hotel) was an authentic medina experience and made us feel like residents of the old town during our 3-night stay. The staff, which consisted of four teen boys, was very hospitable, walking us through the winding maze of alleys when we needed guiding. The room was cozy, and I mean cozy as in comfortable as well as small for a family of 4. The shower pressure was a dribble but it was still refreshing after a sweltering journey through the markets. The beds and bedding were comfortable. Crucially, the AC worked great. This is not a luxury hotel, but it’s great value if you are looking for something memorable.
