Old-school elevator takes a long time to arrive; not ideal if in a hurry, which means carrying luggage up or down flights of stairs. Check-out process was long and tedious because of a discrepancy in the price showing up in the hotel's system; the manager worked to honor the price shown on the invoice I received at the time of booking which was lower than what I was being charged at the time of check-out.

Hotel Santa Barbara is a real gem on State Street. Lovely Hotel. Great location. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping, beach. Easy, valet parking. Exceptional front desk service. Quiet, well appointed room with nice amenities. Will definitely recommend to family and friends.

This hotel just finished renovation when I was there for my stay. I loved the new look. My room was also newly renovated. I was last here 2 years ago so the change was very welcome...not as creepy and old as before. But I didn't mind it then. There's a black and white photo of 2 little girls on the 2nd floor just as I turn down my hallway. It reminded me of the Shining movie. I wonder if it was on purpose. But anyway, as usual the hotel is in a great location. Good parking lot in the back, and very attentive and professional valet service. Nice fitness room as well, but I never got to use it. Probaby my only complaint, and this isn't unique to this hotel, is the noise level of the other units as the doors are made very heavy and slam shut with a big boom or crash and can go on all day, all night, even at 2am and can even start at 630am-7am. (maybe because there was a Fiesta that week around the city) The boom is very startling when you're just relaxing (or sleeping, and i had noise-canceling on) My room was right above Starbucks so I was hearing noise early....I think it was them. Shrugs. Anyway, if you are not disturbed by these types of noise then you will love staying here. Very convenient, clean and new. Easy parking. Walkable everywhere. I recommend walking the city during sunset. I walk up and down Garden St or Santa Barbara st. up to the park and I walk slowly passed old houses, and buildings. Smell the air. It's a different vibe than where I live in Santa Monica.
