Pros: location, great staff, nice lobby Cons: rooms are dimly lit, HVAC system is antiquated and is basically a window unit, our closet door literally fall off, bathroom looks like my grandmas house and we had to waste a significant amount of water to get hot water, mattress was starting to sink (not firm enough in the middle) They could benefit from a light renovation of the furniture and bathroom. Overall a decent experience and I guess you get what you pay for.

We had a great stay at The Barnes. Staff is super friendly. The room was clean and comfortable beds. The view was not great. The location is great, cable car stop right outside, close to union square and in walkable distance to Chinatown and many other attractions.

There floor area by the door creaked when you walked by and there was no hot water in the shower. I had to call front desk to send someone to check it. After they "fixed it" the water was warm but not hot.

Location, location, location

We really loved staying at the Barnes. It is conveniently located in a safe part of town. It is also near the subway which makes it easy to visit other parts of the city and to get to the airport.

The only one thing positive is its location. List of negatives: Elevator out of order Room was increadibly noisy. The troley was running all the time. My wife developed a migrane. The shower is extremely small, one could not bend to wash your feet. The air conditioning unit is on the window right by your head on the bed. Great location and all staff was helpful. Very affordable for Union square location. Easy to get to BART. Rooms are a little dark due to color scheme and shuttered windows. I wasn’t in the room much but if not being able to see out windows is an issue then maybe think twice- not sure if all rooms the same. I would absolutely stay here again.
