"Excellent hotel, staff, facilities, food & setting."
With a 3 year old recovering who was down in the dumps after suffering from a severe allergic reaction to suncream and an 8 month pregnant partner, we were looking to get away to have a bit of R&R. This is a great hotel with excellent facilities. The staff were attentive, welcoming and made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant was outstanding on a food front as well as service. The setting was idyllic, surrounded by woods just by the coast. We visited Whitby town and the beach which were only a couple of miles from the hotel. Next time we go we'll make more use of the facilities on site. If you can try this place out you should.

"Nice location but to walk to the beach not good."
No Wi-Fi in the room apart from that everything was OK. The stairs and hallways carpets looking tired. Some dirt on stairs when we arrived was still there when we left 4 days later.

"Well positioned classic hotel"
A very nice up market hotel. We had a small suite and the only gripe was that the windows were too small and high so the sea view was not as spectacular as it could have been. Restaurant was nice but the food lacked finesse.

"Close to beach and within walking distance to all "
Location was excellent, breakfast was good although fresh fruit would have been nice and better choice of cereals. Room had a lovely view looking over the harbour, bathroom was nice, beds were okay but we had twin beds with king size duvets on them!! there was also a lot of fluff under the bed which looked like it had been there for some time and the beds were never made, that's a first for any hotel I've ever stayed in and I've been in several over the years! The waitresses were pleasant although the owners never took time to talk which I thought was a bit strange, if you want people to return to your hotel its nice to at least pass the time of day with them.

"Historic atmosphere with modern comfort"
Even by Whitby's standards, this place feels wonderfully historic. First opened in 1681, it has had a somewhat chequered existence until opening in its current incarnation in 1993. Go through a slightly forbidding bar to a much brighter hotel section. There are the usual head-threatening beams, slightly wonky floors and walls and some steep stairs. The rooms though, are obviously recently refurbished. Mine in a tasteful olive-green shade with old photos and a slightly lurid painting of the harbour by sunset. A special joy was to be found in the bathroom - a proper bathtub. These are getting increasingly rare in hotels. There is also a separate shower cubicle. Other nice touches are the bottle of water and a jug of proper milk. The only problems with the room were a window that refused to stay open - it was a very warm night, and a TV remote control that took some coaxing to work. The second of these is a very common problem in hotel rooms, I find. There is a restaurant on the ground floor that serves evening meals and a good full English breakfast can be had in the morning. A friendly and atmospheric stay in the heart of Old Whitby.

"Excellent for short break visit to Scarborough."
We wanted a really nice hotel for a trip down memory lane i.e. A visit to Scarborough about 50 years since the last visit. It worked perfectly with a good view from our room. We would have liked a larger bed and better heating in the bay window area.

Brilliant position for coastal path and sea views. A bit of a hike to harbour and across to abbey. Not so much going down but climbing back up again!!! All in all we had a lovely break but had to cut it short because I started with a chest infection.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Ravenscar hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
