"4 1/2 stars, but definitely worth rounding up!"
This hotel is a lovely find for anyone who wants to avoid big, corporate hotels that could be anywhere in the world. The grounds were lovely - full of local plants that attracted plenty of wildlife (loads of lizards, all different types of birds, the funny looking local squirrels and even a lone howler monkey). The upstairs restaurant and seating area caught the breeze to keep it cool and the small pool was refreshing. But what really made the place was the hotel staff. Courteous and helpful at all times in an unobtrusive way. I was also impressed by how spotlessly clean the place was - and walking by as the cleaners were preparing a room for new guests I could see why (It's a pity it would cost far too much to fly them out to the UK to clean my house) The location is great, too. Just a short walk to Playa Brasilito and from there another short walk to Playa Conchal. It is also walking distance to a handful of local restaurants if you don't fancy the excellent dining on site. The one down side was that the rooms were sound proof. You could hear a bit of traffic noise from the road and, as for the dawn chorus, it sounded like the birds were right there with you in your room. So come, but bring a pair of ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.

"Nice location "
Guess I am not cut out for the eco lodge experience. Way too many ants and large iguanas for me to relax. Add a fair amount of flies and mosquitos and a handful of cats that no one seemed to mind workers petting without washing afterwards and it spelled disaster for me. Literally ants all over food and any foot left too long in one spot. Wired thing is that no one else seemed to care. Ps I'm sure I have brought a few back to Colorado with me. Yikes.

"All Inclusive is the Only Way"
My wife and I had the greatest time at the Flamingo. We arrived in the evening which was a shame because it felt like a day wasted but that was unavoidable due to flight times coming from New England. I do not recommend anything but going all inclusive when it comes to places like this. They put a plastic hospital bracelet on you that you must keep on at all times which can be annoying but you get used to it. The bracelet gives you access to either of the two main restaurants, the balcony style bar and the pool bar. The breakfast buffet is a little meh but there is an egg station and the bartenders will gladly make you a drink if orange juice isn't your thing (we prefer a mimosa to start our days). The pineapple is unbelievably delicious and the staff is extremely friendly. Eating outside is pleasant as the patio is netted off to keep out the wildlife. Speaking of the wildlife, there are a collection of birds and large lizards but they pretty much just hang out around the pool hoping you'll drop em something (you shouldn't) and if you don't they move on. For lunch and dinner, they have food to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. Don't like the buffet? Order from the menu. Not a fan of Hispanic food? Order a cheeseburger, pizza or even a Philly cheese steak. Or you can do both. All inclusive is all inclusive and when you see the prices on the menu, you'll be glad you chose it. Pool bar opens at 10am and the bartenders keep the drinks flowing til closing.

"Beautiful, comfy all-inclusive "
This was my husband & my first time staying at an all-inclusive resort. Usually we prefer the off-beaten path and exploring local culture, but this time we didn't want to think or plan anything- Riu Palace was great for this! The hotel is located quite a drive from Liberia airport (~1hr) so get ready for a ride. The roads are two lane only and the road is quite windy/bumpy, which is not fun for those with sensitive stomachs. Anyway, the hotel is quite secluded and partnered with sister hotel Riu Guanacaste. It is located on Playa Matapalo, a public beach, but mere footsteps from your hotel. You can access all Guanacaste facilities if staying at Palace but not the other way around. (Palace restaurants are definitely better FYI) On that note, food is terrific. Buffets for breakfast and lunch offer great variety. Dinner options are buffet OR sit-down. 2 speciality restaurants downstairs (Krystal and Tokio) can be hard to get into so be sure to arrive at 6pm on the dot so you can get a seat. There are very few tables but the food is excellent. Did I mention drinks (alcoholic) are free too? This is crazy or awesome depending on who you ask :) Even the rooms have "pour your own" liquor stations which I can see resulting in many-a blackout. But enjoy! The pools are lovely and offer areas for kids, volleyball, and dancing. There are activities all day long- including wonderful shows at night (Micheal Jackson was my fave and Crazy Show was hilarious!)

"Bonita Beach, peacefull Hotel"
This hotel is just perfect, on the beach! Nice for swimming, very clean. Fishing boat tours are available on the beach pick up. Store to shop for food, etc. up the hill from hotel only 4 minutes. Close to Coco beach for shopping, casino, restaurants (best ones called soda). Other restaurants only a short walk down the beach to the right. Nice to take a walk or jog on beach feels safe, just take precaution at night of course. Great hotel to watch the sunset and they set up chairs with cushions. Staff are wonderful! They are fun, professional and very nice. Stewart the bartender is so polite! Shirley and Carlos are great in the restaurant and breakfast is definitely worth getting!! Front desk can help you with all your tours too! If you rent a car, like we did. The parking lot is supervised in the evening, so no worries. Rooms are always cleaned everyday and staff are very tentative. We had the Jr. suite, plenty of room for 4 people (we had 3). Highly recommend this hotel, its in a jungle setting and really gives you a feel of Costa Rica beauty. We seen Congo Monkeys in the trees our last night!!

"Great Beach Resort, good food, clean"
This was our 3rd Riu and first Riu Hotel in Costa Rica. Great place to stay. Good Food. The Furama restaurant was great. Staff works very hard and so even if it is All Inclusive, a little tip goes a long way. Please and Thank you and treating the workers with respect goes a long way. When we checked in, there was a guest that was yelling at the Manager at the reception desk cuz he asked for 4 towels early in the morning and didn't get it. He was yelling and using foul language. I believe that if he was courteous, his request would have been met. We got in very early in the morning and they let us check in 4 hours earlier once the room was ready. We tipped the servers and maids every day; you don't have to, but we liked doing that. Service was great. There are mosquitoes so take appropriate insect repellants. We did get bitten. This is a humid area with lots of greenery, so insects everywhere, but they clean and sweep and keep things clean as much as possible. Beach does have volcanic dark sand, small rocks, pebbles, so water shoes are good to have. The ocean was a little rough so be careful. Rained almost every afternoon we were there. Almost. So we enjoyed the beach and pool in the morning. We don't drink a lot so will not comment on that one way or another. We enjoyed the drinks. Free WiFi in lobby area, restaurants. Check in and check out was great. Rooms were clean but could use a little more fine cleanning. The resort is remote

Playa Flamingo is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Playa Flamingo, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Playa Flamingo hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
