This Hotel is such a fun place to stay and get reconnected to nature and family. Fun hiking trails and very comfortable cabins to stay in. Food is delicious, the Stew & Chicken pot pie our my favorite so far. The staff is always welcoming and informative.

Delightful and funky. Spa robes were ready at the foot of the bed, the fire warmed the room, there was no sink in the bathroom, and the kitchen outlet was directly over the quality Italian range. Desolation Hotel is isolated at the end of Hope Valley, which was an essential part of the Emmigrant Trail. The "hotel" is a collection of comfortable cabins hidden in the trees above the restaurant/lobby & outdoor bar & dining area. It is an ideal location for those who like hiking or trout fishing.

Stayed at Sierra cabin towards the back of the property (of note, Yurts are at a different location just down the road). Very clean, friendly staff, very relaxing grounds. Patrons were all respectful during our stay and everyone seemed to value the collective feeling of serenity/peace. Excellent supplies in terms of all needed utensils in clinic, only negative was regarding spice rack, some were expired but really not enough of a negative to take away from the experience. We shopped at S. Lake Tahoe Raley's just about 20 minutes up the road and cooked dinner/breakfast ourselves. Plenty of great little fun spots on site, including swings overlooking the property, fire pit, bag toss games/Jenga/etc. Would stay again definitely.

The place is amazing. Spectacular scenery, location, glamping yurt, and staff. I'd definitely recommend it. That said: the info on the website, and via the hotels.com confirmation process, was inadequate, leaving me with great uncertainty about how to get into the yurt for my after dark arrival. That caused a great deal of undue cost/stress (long story) so just be sure to get directions on how to enter your yurt a good couple of days in advance for safe keeping.

This was the most adorable hotel. Highly recommend! We had a little Swedish-style cabin with carefully curated design details, comfy bed, beautifully decked-out kitchen. And we had a delicious home-made meal at their restaurant. Lovely staff. All around perfect.

Never had a cabin with a full kitchen before, especially one fully equipped with all the dishes, and cookware you could need! The place was so cozy, quiet, and clean. The staff were also more than accommodating as my partner and I tried everything while we were there: the private sauna, the campfire pit, and visiting the lake out back. This place would be great for those looking to explore nature and enjoy the quiet while still being 30min from South Lake Tahoe. There were also a few trailheads nearby for those who love to hike. Overall a great relaxing stay!

The place was as cute as ever. Our cabin was quiet, peaceful, plenty warm. Plus, we loved that we could bring our dog! The kitchen needed more equipment, eg measuring cups, cutting board, those types of things. We will stay there again if we get a chance! We only interacted with one employee. She was fantastic!
