"Suitable for families more than couples"
Pluses: gorgeous location, beautiful exterior, many activities. Minuses: could hear our next door neighboors at all times. Activities are overpriced for their value, beds are not comfortable

"Nice hotel near Loch Ard but terrible restaurant"
We stayed at the Macdonal Forest Hills hotel near Aberfoyle for 3 nights at the end of April 2017. Our experience of our stay was mixed. Good points: - Friendly reception staff - Excellent that fresh milk and ice are brought to the room free of charge. This was done promptly each time requested - Very spacious feature double room with view of Loch Ard and balcony - Good pool and jacuzzi, steam room, sauna etc Negative points: - The restaurant. This is supposed to be a AA Rosette winning restaurant so we decided to treat ourselves to a meal there on our first night. The prices were high but we thought the food would be absolutely delicious. I ordered the hake which was ok, however, my partner ordered the chicken supreme which was appalling! Chicken supreme is typically in a creamy sauce with bacon pieces. What he was served was basically a piece of chicken on a plate, with no seasoning, flavouring or sauce whatsoever. It was served with 4 tasteless chips and some seaweed that also tasted of nothing. It cost £17. I have never tasted such a bland dish, and could not believe this would be served up in a restaurant that is supposed to be a very high standard. Clearly standards have slipped since the award was given, and the quality has not been maintained in order to be worthy of a AA Rosette status. I informed the hotel of our very poor experience at the restaurant. Housekeeping poor: room not serviced until around 4pm when we then wanted to be in our room.

Lovely room and hotel in general but it's starting to look a little tired. The radiator in our room was full of dust, the curtain was ripped too and there was litter in one of the cupboards. Just needs a wee bit more tlc.

"Brilliant location but...."
Gentleman at checkin seemed perplexed and disappointed that we had managed to book a discounted room online that was not available. He then gave us an upgraded room with a brilliant view down to Loch Tay so we were very happy with that. We had arrived late and decided to eat in for the 3 course set menu as the nearest town in Killin is about 12 kms away on a narrow road. Portion sizes were very small. The food was overly fussy with many different components and no flavour. The one scallop that was served as an entree was accompanied by something that I'm sure was mixed with curry powder. It was inedible. The chef is obviously trying hard with a menu beyond his capacity. He personally served everyone's dessert to the table. The other 4 couples also dining all said everything was fine. No one wants to hurt someone's feelings but clearly we were all thinking the same thing as evidenced by other reviews. A menu with good local produce and simple great flavours is required for the restaurant to survive. I don't usually write reviews. It really is an amazing place and deserves to be enjoyed at all levels. If I went again we would pay for the upgraded room with an overview of the Loch. See if you can get a taxi to Killin if you want to have drink or buy up a range of Scottish delicacies from the House of Bruar and sit in your room to enjoy the view

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Lochearnhead hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
