Good location, very noisy

Location close to Taksim square and surrounding area with almost 24/7 shopping and easy access to transport excellent. Rooms somewhat “worn”, but clean and bed comfortable. Had “superior room” with balcony (806). Balcony spacy and sunny in afternoon. Nice big fridge. VERY noisy from neighbor rooms, walls are paperthin and even low voices can be heard easily. In next door room had family with screaming kids (and parents) past midnight, and hotel apparently couldn’t move us to other room with balcony, were very reluctant to ask for them to try to lower the noise level and didn’t offer any consolation (we didn’t ask). Maybe noise problem only on 8. balcony floor which seems to have different layout than other lower floors. Pool small but clean, same goes for spa/sauna area. Staff ok friendly but as mentioned could/would not fix biggest issue. Breakfast was poor but of course convenient to have in house. Considering overall price level in Istanbul could probably have found cheaper with same amenities, but location was good and we enjoyed our stay.

The Occidental is an amazing hotel and will be my number one hotel of choice on future visits to Istanbul. I was greeted warmly at reception and offered refreshments on arrival. I was then upgraded to a wrap around balcony suite. The suite was very large and was spotlessly clean. There was a gift of complimentary chocolates. There was a slight issue with the tv not working and someone arrived within a few minutes to rectify it. I was impressed. There is an amazing pool and jacuzzi. There are massages available at very reasonable prices. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, freshly baked breads replenished every 10 minutes, ginger shots, a variety of egg dishes, omelettes cooked to order, hot and cold buffet, churros and more. Delicious! It was my birthday during my stay and even though I did not mention this, the staff surprised me with a birthday cake and card delivered to my room. One of the staff also gave me chocolates. At checkout I was also given a token gift. All the staff went above and beyond to make my stay in Istanbul special, were super friendly and professional. A wonderful hotel in the heart of Taksim.
