Very much an up north feel. Great value for the money. We stayed in the motel room building, nice view of the lake

We stayed in a small suite with a kitchenette area. The bed was very comfortable. The view was gorgeous. The only downfall is that there is no one that comes in and changes out your towels, or removes any trash you have. You have to get your own towels if you need more, plus take out your own trash if it gets too full. I’m not fussy about having the bed made or changed so that was fine. Overall though we really did love the place.

Cute and vintage

I stayed in the motel at Solbakken. It is vintage - reminded me of resorts I stayed in as a child. While things inside were older, they were clean. The bed was updated and cozy. The motel portion is not next to the lake - the cabins are behind the motel, and then the lake.

Rustic and friendly

This is a very old school, friendly place to stay in cabins and motel on the lake. The motel section is showing its age, and needs a refresh, but the staff is incredibly nice and the prices are very reasonable.

Lovely, prime location, and very peaceful. I loved the more vintage lodging vibe. The trees and lake views are priceless. We appreciated the new grills and wagons! The bed was comfy and clean. My only suggestion is the windows all need deep cleaning of webs and spiders. As do the screen doors - they need replacing and tightening/secured locks. The blinds in our room are also looking rough. These were small but noticeable things but the good things exceeded these!!

Couple easyfix things: Internet & water. Water has sort of osmotic taste, and even for brushing teeth it is not appropriate. Internet is very weak. We cook. And for us kitchen seemed understaffed. We have our own spices, oil, sugar, but if you plan relying on them- be informed bringing everything. Overall it is outdated. At least it is 40yo. and not much chanched since then. The driving route along the property is in very bad shape, it is basically as off-road, not fun. No light at night or signs to see where to go.

Perfect for our night stay

We were only able to stay a night but would have liked to stay longer. The staff was very welcoming. The lodge was cool. All the history. The view from our motel room was great. The deck was nice to sit out at night. The rooms were very clean and comfortable..it had everything we needed.

Solbakken is a unique and enjoyable place to stay. The sink in the bathroom of the motel unit where I stayed had a very slow drain. Also, I had a hard time getting the hot water in the shower. The mixer faucet may have been defective. I always enjoy the view from the motel units. The decor is very pleasing and appropriate for the location.
