"Small friendly hotel"
A stiff walk up the hill from the centre, this hotel has everything you'd expect. Excellent breakfast, sunny lounge area and tables in the garden to chill out. It's possible to catch the local bus up the hill and walk back down if you prefer or there's always a taxi. Local tour organisers will pick you up at the hotel. In a quiet residencial area, this feels like the authentic Madeira.

"Very dependent on room allocation"
We booked a Grand Deluxe room and were allocated Rm 302, which had no sunlight, no balcony and a view into the adjacent offices. The only other room available which had light or a view was a top floor suite which cost us a considerable extra sum per night, but was huge and absolutely fantastic. The hotel design means that most rooms have city/mountain or sea views and sunlight for a good part of the day, but a handful (those ending 01 or 02) have none of these and should really be sold as restricted light/view. The hotel is ultra-chic, with numerous features that are based on style over practicality, but make for a fun experience. As an example the flooring throughout is black cobblestone (even in the lifts); for a building where 90% of people arrive and leave with a wheeled suitcase the design team must have a mischievous sense of humour.

"Small & Friendly with Great Location"
A very enjoyable week which was made special by the very friendly welcome of the staff every morning. The breakfast at the hotel is worthy of any 5 Star service. Recommended.

"Beautiful hotel"
This hotel was very impressive. It is big. There are four pools (two indoor and two outdoor) and ocean access. There are more amenities that I have time to mention. One thing that I would like to say though is that the breakfast was magnificent. The buffet even included free champagne. While I refrained for most of my stay, I did indulge on my last morning at the hotel (as all I had to do that day was sit on a plane).

"Classy hotel."
Classy hotel with excellent facilities and customer service. Good breakfast and very nice suite. Good location not too far from Funchal centre, although the hilly terrain is challenging for the less mobile. Two lovely outdoor and one indoor pools.

"If you can find a better place then let me know"
We had the pleasure of staying at The Residence over New Year and throughout our time there we couldn't fault the Service, Staff, Location, Décor or Facilities it has to offer. The general ambience of the place oozes charm and sophistication that will make any stay a pleasurable experience. Nobody we spoke to had a bad word to say about the place and I very much doubt you could find anybody who could. Thinking of booking then book now you won't be disappointed. If the Management & Staff read this then well done you are doing an excellent job.

"Good hotel, convenient to the Lido area of Funchal"
Nice hotel, catering especially to English-speaking guests and adults. Rooms were comfortable, clean, and relatively spacious. Our balcony offered a lovely view of the ocean. A substantial breakfast was included. The hotel styles itself somewhat as a "cruise ship on land," with nightly entertainment, spa, on-site tour directors (from TUI/Thomson), etc., and largely succeeds in this endeavor. True to much of this area of Funchal, it sits on a substantial hill, so if you are badly out-of-shape or mobility impaired, getting around may be an issue. Otherwise, you are a <5 minute walk to a "levada" walking trail and numerous restaurants, and ~15 minutes walk to shopping and the Lido Promenade. Only real complaint is that the hot tub was more akin to a "tepid tub," but that is small potatoes.

"Great hotel with amazing views i"
Great hotel with elegant interior and fantastic views of Funchal. About 20 minutes walk from the town - not the easiest of walks because of the steep roads - some without pavements but overall really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.

Funchal is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Funchal, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Funchal hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
