I took a bus from the airport and it stopped at the front of this hotel. Okaido street was just right across the street, lots of restaurants there. The tram stops were also right in front of the hotel. Very convenient location, I must say. No need to worry about dragging your luggage and walk miles to your hotel if you are flying into Matsuyama. I stayed in a single, non-smoking room. The room was clean and comfortable. However, the pillows smelled a little stale from sweat. The bathroom was very clean. Amenities provided were complete. The staff could speak English and were very helpful. They helped me to safe keep my luggage for a few hours when I checked out. It was a pleasant stay.

Being a first time visit to Matsuyama, my first priority was location.
Approx 10-15 min walk down the main street from JR Matsuyama station or short tram ride (160 Yen).
Had a nice room overlooking the park with a great view of Matsuyama castle in the distance.
Most impressive feature for a Japanese hotel is plenty of floor space for placing luggage.
Experiencing Dogo onsen is a must (don't just take photo's from outside).
The ropelift to Matsuyama castle is convenient though only a short ride.
Trams are easy to ride and most places are walkable. Day passes for around 400 yen are good value as it is very convenient to catch trams around the city.
There is a tasty izakaya style restaurant nearby called Kippei, featuring various bbq skewer items. Just ask for omakase (chef's selection). 10 skewers (or more) per person provides a sufficient meal.
English is limited however the staff are very friendly and helpful.

APA hotel has an excellent location right next to the train station. The rooms were nicely appointed and clean inside. However the beds were super springy and very uncomfortable. They were way below what I would expect for a large chain hotel. I had the worst rest in my entire stay in Japan at this hotel. Their other amenities such as holding luggage after we checked out, so we could explore the area before we moved on was helpful and well appreciated though.

the room was very clean and the amenities were quite comprehensive. the room rate couldn't be any more affordable in japan. i didn't have a chance to use the public spa on the 9/f since i arrived some minutes past midnight. maybe it should be open 24/7.
