The Embassy Suites Des Moines is my go to for hosting gatherings. Rooms are spacious and clean. Many great memories made here, from my own wedding at Simon Estes amphitheater to birthday parties. And can’t go wrong with made to order omelets in the morning!

Not my first recommendation

From a mistake at the front desk that resulted in my card getting changed twice, to the mildew smell in the room, I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It's what was clearly lovely hotel at one time. Today, it needs to be renovated and possibly give the staff a little more training.

Typically we love our stays at the downtown Des Moines Embassy Suites. This stay, however, we encountered some less encouraging things in regards to our room during our two night stay. Our room's air conditioning was not functioning. We let the front desk know, and they said they could put in a maintenance request, but we did not want someone in our room that evening. The fan worked ok, but it was definitely frustrating. The pull out couch had many rips and tears in the cushions, and the mattress was filled with many stains we noticed as we were making the bed. This left us a bit uneasy. Much of the furniture is nicked and scraped in the rooms. Our refrigerator never actually fully worked either, and we had to get rid of some food that had spoiled due to this. Otherwise, we loved the breakfast and happy hour options. Things are always well done in this department.

Hotel is in a convenient location. With restaurants and bars in the downtown area and main attractions at a walkable distance. As for the hotel itself, staff is friendly and helpful with recommendations. Complimentary breakfast was tasty and fresh.
