The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant is wonderful! The rooms are very dated, however this is to be expected considering this is a historic site. Good value for the price.
What a wonderful place to stay. The workers went over and beyond to accommodate us. I would definitely come back.

Liked: Cleanliness
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Positives are location. It is right on the main street and close to gambling and other amenities. It is upstairs from a fun casino and is a unique historical building. The negatives are the rooms are very run down with cracks in the walls, chipping paint, carpet is very old and stained, furniture is old and worn, water pressure is bad and bathroom sink is a pedestal sink with no counter space. Also construction workers were slamming doors early in the morning. Other Positives were the price was good for weekday and winter. They advertise they are remodeling in 2025, so we may try it again after remodel.
Beds were comfortable enough and the room was clean. About the most you can ask for out of an old historic building. Just wish they had mini fridges in the rooms
To be fair, the whole theme of Deadwood is 1880s, but I would like the room I sleep in to have a bit more modern security. The doors are interior doors like most people have on their home closets but they added two locks. One is a deadbolt which you don't get a key to (I assume security/maintenance has) so it only works from the inside, the other is an antique night latch which anyone can bypass from outside with a business card or screwdriver. Also, to properly open your door requires two hands simultaneously (one for the lock and one for the door knob), which sucks if you are carrying something. If you only have one hand, I guess you're SOL, but most things in Deadwood are not ADA compliant.
Beyond that major complaint, the rooms are plaster on lathe as was the style 100 years ago. They have a simple kitchenette with a microwave and mini fridge in case you have leftovers. The beds are clean although only double-size. The water pressure in the shower was almost nonexistent even though the sink faucets (separate hot & cold) both had good pressure. I'll probably spend another $20 and choose one of the other, newer hotels next time I'm in Deadwood.
Noisy, very old 6" innerspring mattress, heat was unreliable and noisy (started humming in the middle of the night). Shower was supposed to be retro, but hard to adjust. Historic in the name but just never updated, not worth the money. Won't be staying there again.
The hotel oozes history. You walk from floor to floor and you see the names on the doors. They represent the west and its impact on our culture and history.
