I liked the Royal Sonesta Hotel for its location on the beach, cleanliness, polite staff and overall, just a beautiful hotel. What I did not like was their parking which is across the street and there is no stop light or stop sign for pedestrians to cross the street to get to the parking lot.

The property was nice . The food was good. I hate the staff at the bar Mr. Calcano was racist and discrimination against me multiple times. I brought it to his manager attention Mr.Diaz who brush it off telling me sorry. It’s wasn’t until her did it again that I spoke with General Hotel director whom help me. I won’t recommend anyone to this hotel ever

I stayed at the Royal Sonesta San Juan for my 30th birthday and unfortunately had a very disappointing and concerning experience—mainly due to serious cleanliness and health issues. Upon arrival, I recorded birds flying into the outdoor kitchen and eating directly from uncovered pizza ingredients while staff looked on. The spa was also unclean, with hair and food crumbs in the locker and relaxation areas. My body wrap started 20 minutes late and was poorly executed, leaving me covered in clay streaks. They took off 20% for the issue. The worst part was our room (928). I woke up with what turned out to be 99+ bedbug bites, despite using bug spray and taking precautions. The pattern of the bites resembled the eating habits of bedbugs, and was confirmed by my doctor. My friend, who didn’t use spray and slept on the sofa bed, had none. The mattress was visibly stained and didn’t have a proper protective cover. Though staff moved us to another room (1430) it took hours and they broke personal items in the process. Other cleanliness issues included dirty glasses, hair in cups, and greasy fingerprints throughout the room. The resort refunded only the resort fees (~$280) but denied a full refund. I’ve had to escalate to Expedia, my bank, and will be filing a complaint with BBB. For the price we paid, this stay fell far below expectations and ruined what should have been a special milestone trip. Proceed with caution—especially if health and cleanliness are priorities.

The resort was very well maintained and the staff was very friendly. However, the food is incredibly expensive, as well as the drinks and not (in my opinion) special enough to justify! Breakfast for 2 will undoubtedly cost you 75 bucks if you both have the buffet after tip. The food is decent but not worth that kind of money! Again, my opinion. Walk to Dennys which is just down the street! They lock everything up early meaning you cannot access the beach after 7 or 8. I say 7 or 8 because it was sporadic. Sometimes it was 7 and other times it was closer to 8. Pool closes very early as well. I understand why they do it from their standpoint, but if you want to take a night walk on the beach or a late swim, not going to happen here. If those are Puerto Rican laws, then by all means advertise that! I just could not find anything special enough to justify the high cost! I was definitely expecting alot more and not a 27 dollar burger that you could get anywhere for a fraction of the cost! Also, the bed is VERY hard and the balcony is tiny and standing room only. No furniture out there to sit and enjoy the expensive oceanfront view you pay so much for! Im thankful for the kind staff and overall enjoyed the stay, but i would not choose this property for my next visit.

The property was well kept. They had a nice swim up bar, but the out door restaurant was over priced for the food served. There was not any entertainment or music outdoors as most resorts offer. Most guests recommended to walk to the Fairmont hotel next door. The bed was a bit hard for my liking. Beware if you book with Expedia, the front desk takes a while to find your reservation as they say it’s common that your first and last name is flipped in their system.

Nice property with clean rooms and friendly staff. Had an issue with new restaurant that was recently added but maitre’d was very helpful and addressed our issue. Also liked that there were quite a few dining options within walking distance of the resort. Also, the beach and pool areas were great. Overall, I’d recommend this place

The majority of the staff was extremely courteous and welcoming. Eimy at the front desk treated us like family, and the female supervisor over food and beverage provided exceptional service in accommodating my food allergies. Brenda and Wanda in Aleli were excellent waitresses. The staff at Oceans Pool Bar were great as well. Meals were a little pricey but the food quality was above standard. There were several dining options in walking distance that were reasonably priced. The ocean side view on the 16th floor was everything one could ask for on a vacation. The proximity of the beach was a huge plus. Comfortable bed, huge shower, and updated rooms. The renovation was done well.

The location of the hotel is first rate. It is right on the beach, which is one of the best beaches I've visited. Very easy to navigate the hotel, pool area, beach, restaurants. Staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. This was my second trip to the Royal Sonesta in San Juan. I hope there is a third!
