Well situated but charging a $250 refundable fee in addition to accommodation was unexpected. The place is very old and does not rate compared to other hotels nearby. No dining in house and no cleaning on weekends.

We walked in and straight out. There was black mold on the ceiling in reception. Everything was battered. It did not look like the pictures on the advertisement. I have never been so horrified or embarrassed that I had booked this place. They did give me my deposit back straight away. I can see why they make the booking non refundable because it is nothing like what is advertised. I bet this does not appear in the ratings

Criterion is in a really good position. Close to central city shops restaurants, cafe's etc. We use it as a late stay over flying interstate for work but its in a great spot. Has 24hr checkin. 11am checkout. It all works really well for us. Its a little noisy at times is all id say but overall good value accommodation.

The need for a $250 bond was a surprise. It was refunded during checkout. Maintenance issues in my room: Desk top has lots of peeling paint, Skirting board has scratches, carpet is worn in places. Insufficient shelves. No writing material in room. No ironing board nor iron Room not clean on a Saturday

Property very old and in need of maintenance and updating. I think the pricing is a bit high. I've stayed at other hotels approx same price and rooms were much better. Basic rooms, clean linen daily which was a plus. Good location. Plenty of nearby cafes for meals.

We found the room to be cold - heater didn’t do much & we couldn’t get hold of reception to request another blanket. The staff were good & informative but wouldn’t recommend stay, mould in bathroom & paint peeling.

Affordable accommodation

We often stay at the criterion because its reasonably priced and convenient with its 24hr checkin. We arrived very late due to major delays on our flights. Check-In is quick. The desk is manned 24hrs .11am check out suits us too. We had a flight the next day. Overall, its nothing fancy and can be a little noisy but an affordable place to rest your head for 1 night.

Great location right near Hay street Mall but property condition was pretty poor. Also the need for a $250 deposit was unusually high for what was a very basic room and saying it would take a long period of time before release was a shock. Positive shower was hot towels and sheets were clean but some other areas needed attention

Excellent location, a walking distance to shops and transport. An old historical building so a little run down but everything was working well including elevator, air conditioning and shower. Comfortable beds. Good value for the money.
