It’s a very nice building. Room is big and bed is comfortable. I found it weird that there is no shower curtain in the bathroom. The front desk person is amazing. Didn’t get her name, but I checked in on 7/9. Super personable. I needed ice and she found a bag in the freezer. You can buy an ice maker from Amazon for under $70. The owners should invest in that. Ice is important in this weather. The street is nice. The neighborhood is mid. Kinda dicey and I live in LA…. Not a lot of choices for food or bars nearby but I came because of the Institute of Arts. It’s just down the block.

Checked into hotel in afternoon and then went out and came back around 12:30 pm. At 1:30 am fire alarms went off in our building. After a thorough search by fire department and staff, decided it was false alarm (no one told us this!). After 15 minutes of fire department leaving, fire alarm went off once again. Had to change buildings at 2:15 am and they put us in a room with no Air Conditioning. I will never come here again.

Historical experience

Love staying in such a great group of older mansions, and happy to support them rather than staying in an impersonal cookie cutter hotel. Location is nice, short walk to the free QLine into the heart of downtown, and to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Historical Society museum. No problem accessing the parking behind the inn at any time. The staff at the desk were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was good, fresh fruit, eggs, sausage, pastries etc. Our room was spacious and had a nice view. Mattress better than most. The cons were mostly inherent in a stay in an older home: no elevator, weak water pressure on the third floor. Only real issue was cleanliness. Bathroom was OK but some areas in the bedroom hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time, like around the edges and the nightstands. The windows were grimy, as was the woodwork.

Everything was really great except that someone in the room above made a lot of noise all night. The wasn’t a lot of sound proofing. Other than that it was lovely! Good breakfast!

Loved the houses and the period decor. The bathroom was very clean. But we thought the dining area could have been cleaner. We saw a lot of dust and the windows were very dirty. I understand it is in the middle of a busy city, but common areas should be clean. The food was also very bland and the same everyday. For the price we thought they could have done better.
