It was my first time here. I do love the luxury vintage look/feel. They could use a few modern touches that wouldn't take away from the vibe, such as a small refrigerator and microwave. However, it's still beautiful.

The common areas are beautiful. Fresh, fragrant flowers. Very classy feel. The rooms left much to be desired. The room I was put in was near a fire escape and was significantly smaller than my friends room, three doors down (single queen rooms). I was directly facing another room which was odd as well. The a/c worked well, however every time it was about to turn off, it made an extremely loud noise-it startled me out of my sleep so many times I had to turn it off overnight. Since there were no similar rooms, I would have had to upgrade. The rooms could use some updating as well. There was a board mounted into the wall which was holding the handle to flush the toilet. Pipes were visible. Shower didn’t drain quickly, so you stand in water. The pressure of the shower is comparable to a firehouse, so good luck standing directly underneath. Also, no microwave or refrigerator included ($30 if you want a fridge, lol). All in all, pretty hotel to visit but I wouldn’t recommend staying.

The Drake is a Grand Dame venue: wide hallways, spacious rooms, upscale toiletries, smooth sheets, vast lake views, gracious staff, sparkling chandeliers, burgeoning floral arrangements. Just a few feet off the Mag Mile, The Drake has the best location for shopping: steps from Bloomingdale’s, American Girl, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany’s, Nordstrom.

The drake has been a family tradition when in the city. My grandparents stayed there, my parents would stay there, my wife and I have My wife and I could stay anywhere but the Drake is special to us. One of the reason for that has been the service and quality of the Coq d’or. The chowder, the cocktails, the atmosphere, the service… all of which has been missing since shortly after COVID. I’m not sure if they brought in an “efficiency” expert to manage the place, or if their long present quality staff has retired, but it’s changed, and not for the better. The chowder is still decent, but quality of service, craftsmanship of the cocktail and the food quality has significantly declined. Our room was great! Hotel staff friendly, but there’s a hundred hotels, all with Chicago’s historical pedigree that have great bars. The Coq D’or has broken our heart and it’s very questionable if we will give it another shot.

Iconic hotel

I’ve always wanted to stay at the Drake since it’s an iconic hotel. It was a fun overnight. It’s an older hotel but still charming. The staff was great. The day was very nice.
