I have never been to a US hotel (especially not one as disgusting as this) that would not check me in without making & keeping a copy of my driver's license. I was happy to present it, but there is absolutely no reason for them to make a copy. Or insist on keeping the copy upon my check out.

Ac worked well, clean, good beds, lots of space, good breakfast. Bathroom door wouldnt lock but thats the only complaint.
