"Good and bad"
We stayed for 2 days in mid-September. The best thing about the hotel was the thermal baths that are actually very large indoor and outdoor swimming pools fed by the local hot springs. This maintains the water temperature in the 34-38 degree (C) range which is extremely relaxing. The pools are well maintained and not crowded. Overall the hotel has a feeling of faded glory. It was clearly splendid at some point in the past - but everything feels a little worn out now - from the bath mats to the dining rooms. It was the only 4 star hotel we have stayed in where there was a water heater/kettle - but no coffee or tea supplies. The fixed menu dinner in the restaurant was very medium quality and the only time we ever felt rushed eating while in Italy. The hotel is a comfortable 30 minute drive from the old town in Padua - which we thought was perfect. There were several great local Restaurants (Mary's Pizza and Trattoria di Nicola) within walking distance. Not sure who awarded the advertised 4 stars - but it is definitely not within the usual quality that 4 stars would denote.

"Staff is very nice. The hotel needs work."
One day i came back and found a toothbrush in the bed the staff "just made". People are nice and always willing to help. There are some discrepencies with cleanliness and overall room quality.

"Mixed experience "
We had booked a double room for our son and his fiancée and a twin room for ourselves. As it was a special occasion we asked for views with both rooms. In the event our son's fiancée was unable to make the trip. When we arrived we were told there had been a mixup and we would have to move temporarily to what was admittedly a better room which we did. But they wanted our son to move into a single room which was tiny and not very nice. We refused this and after a lot of hassle and stress we were given the rooms we originally booked. Our son's room had a view but ours didn't. After this the staff made every effort to help. The hotel is superbly appointed, the beds extremely comfortable and given its location very quiet. The breakfasts are however poor, nothing fresh and everything prepackaged. Too many sweet cakes, sugary drinks and cereals. The overall impression is of a beautiful hotel, lovely rooms and beds but with mediocre customer service.

"Excellent location"
We stayed for three nights at the end of April. The location was ideal for us as it is so central. It took literally a few minutes to walk to the Castello Estense and the Duomo. Most of the other places of interest are also reachable on foot. We did not have to use public transport during our stay. The hotel overlooks the Piazza Sacrati and although there is car parking in the square we were not bothered by noise at night. Our room (333) was a good size but I was initially disappointed by the lack of wardrobes and drawers. However, the modern furniture provided lots of shelving space and there was rail with coat hangers so that in the end there was plenty of storage space, but more drawers would have been useful. The bathroom was huge with plenty of storage space for all our bits and pieces. The walk-in shower was very hot and powerful - lovely! Breakfast was good with plenty of choice of both hot and cold dishes. It also started nice and early, 7 o'clock, so you could have a leisurely breakfast and still have an early start to your exploration of the city. We would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone who is thinking of visiting Ferrara and we would definitely stay at the Carlton again if we were to return to the city.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Ceregnano hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
