We had a terrible experience with the Japanese restaurant. The guy gave us a buzzer and said there was 45 minutes of wait. We waited 40 minutes and returned to check whether our turn was close. The guy said he already buzzed it a long time ago. The buzzer never buzzed. He then shrugged his shoulders and said there is nothing more he could do other than giving us another buzzer and wait another 45 minutes. His attitude was negative, arrogant and unhelpful. Very poor customer service for a 5 star Riu Palace. We have been to Riu hotels 6 times. After this experience we will never spend our hard earned money there.

We stayed for a week with my husband for our post marathon quiet, relaxing vacation. We loved how big is the beach, and how long you can walk along the beach to both sides. Water is clean and no seaweed. There are palm trees on the beach that provide shade. We had a nice room with partial ocean view and we loved that it was very quiet so we could relax and enjoy our vacation. Room was cleaned daily and we loved the service. Hotel design was simple, but we loved all the staff of the hotel. Everyone was so nice and attentive to us. Restaurant food was good, a little bit less variety of food than in other RIU resorts we stayed. Gym was open since 5 am. If you are runner, your running option would be most likely a treadmill, since beach sand is a bit too soft or run on and there’s not much territory to run around hotel. And at security points they have a few streets dogs, as well as on the beach we saw about 5 dogs walking together which is a bit scary. When we brought up the street dog’s situation at the checkout they said it’s not their dogs and they can’t control it. Which may influence my future decision to come back to that hotel or not. Lots of mosquitoes everywhere and it doesn’t look like they do anything about it like in other RIU. Overall it was a good hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

It’s a nice resort overall, but if asking would I go again, and the answer is probably not. Riu Palace is not very family friendly. There are no elevators around the stairs when going to the beach, we had to manhandle our stroller everytime when going up or down. There are elevators but they are pretty far away from pool/beach stairs. There are no restrooms in Restaurants or buffet. Mosquitoes were horrible almost every evening when we were there couldn’t enjoy being outside. Food is good but could be better, lots of empty areas. Restaurants are lacking. Small portions and very few varieties. I’d prefer staying in Buffets. I would give more than 3 starts. More like 3.5 but not 4.

RIU Palace at Costa Mujeres is a beautiful place, with enough greenery not to feel like you are in concrete jungle setting, with an awesome beach!  Entertainment will keep you engaged if you are easily bored. Make sure you know where the nearest restaurants are, in case you need to use one, as there is a shortage  of them on a resort.  Bring mosquito spray!!! If you travel with kids, the non-alcoholic beverages from the bars are great for kids, but if you want an adult drink, low quality liquor is what you'll get. Food options will keep you from being hungry.  From buffet, to bar grills, to restaurants. However if you want a more upscale dining experience, look else where as you'll not find it at this resort!  When serving guests, staff always friendly and professional, but it felt like the resort was understaffed big time.

Hotel Riu Palace Costa Mujeres - All Inclusive was amazing!! The whole staff is very professional and friendly! They really cater to your every need! The resort was very clean and spotless! The young lady on the 4th floor tended to our room every day with fresh towels. She did an exceptional job. Cristo is a server on the beach and he was very respectful and helpful. I will definitely go back again.

Although the resort was nice, the food was HORRIBLE even the food in the restaurants was disgusting, luckily the staff was able to transfer us to another resort where we were able to enjoy the remainder of the vacay. I wouldn't recommend this resort due to the food.
