Below Average Stay

Stay was below average. Had no hot water and I called down to the front desk and they said I had to run my hot water for 10 mins. I did and it worked, but water still was not steaming hot. I arrived early and asked if my room was ready and they said it was (keep in mind i was only 30 mins early), she proceeded to check me and and told me they charge $50 for ealry check in. I told here I wouldn't pay and just wait. She finally agree not to charge me. Breakfast was very very badic (coffee, toast and yogurt and upon request you could get scrambled eggs). Hotel overall looked tired and needs a remodel. Only really good thing was it was quiet in our room. I won't be rushing back

I live locally so I dont often have reason to use this hotel. I had out of town guests stay here a little over a year ago, no complaints. My husband and I spent our wedding night here 22 years ago and it was fantastic. Last night, mid week of March break, my 9 year old grandson and I checked in with excitement around using the pool. It was very cold. He didnt last long and I didnt bother to go in. He had a shower back in the room to warm up. In our room, big wad of hair under the bathroom door that moved back and forth as door was open and shut, microwave didnt work, pillows so thick, I woke up with a sore neck and back. Each bed had 3 pillows but they were all the same - hard. I tried to get a glass of wine at 730 pm. I was told there was no one there with their smart serve but I could buy a bottle for $30. The continental breakfast was ok. Fruit was fresh and variety was good. Not excellent but it was quite acceptable. The staff were friendly and polite but this hotel has really gone down in the past year. These are all minor things but when you put them all together, it was a disappointing visit.

The 1st hour was fine, and then thinga went downhill. The pool was ice cold and totally unusable. We complained twice to the front desk, however nothing was done. The hotel guest next our room was noisy, and there were some sketchy customers. The outside areas has areas in disrepair. The final straw was that after checking out they called us to state that we had broken a cupboard door in the room's kitchenette. We had advised the front desk that the cupboard was broken when we advised them of the cold pool water. We told them we would not accept any charges for the broken cupboard door. We will NEVER stay at this facility again. Do yourself a favour and stay away!!!

While the room itself was okay, some of the amenities weren't up to par. Wi-Fi was extremely spotty for one. The gym in the basement had no heating on whatsoever and the pool: air temperature and water were quite cold. Didn't bother to try swimming or working out which was disappointing. The heating in the room wasn't working properly either. We tried setting the thermostat to 72 but the whole time we were there, it never got above 68. Room was also missing a remote control for one of the televisions. I have to say though, the gentleman who was working Saturday night at the front desk was very polite. When we arrived back at the hotel at around 10:30 PM, there were no parking spots available. I told the gentleman and he came outside with me in the cold to show us where we could park in the back. I was very impressed with that.

Enjoyed another stay. Any issues were quickly resolved by staff. Morning buffet had many tasty options and staff running it were friendly and helpful. Cookies were the best. Will be back again in May.

The place was amazing. I would recommend highly. Only issue we had was the bathroom tub surround still had hair on the wall and side. This issue was taken care of quickly and the staff was very apologetic about the issue. Stuff happens and I am so pleased with the staff and beauty of the Stone Gate Inn. We shall be back.
