"Everything was perfect"
One of the best hotels I have stayed. Newly decorated, modern with Japanese touches. The biggest bed I've seen :)! We stayed at the room looking in the garden.

"Top One Percent"
We are retired age Americans traveling by ourselves staying in a Japanese Hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Any time we were uncertain of local custom or best practice, the staff was there to assist. As several had studied in the US, they definitely had sufficient English for us. By day 2 the staff was greeting us with Mr & Mrs J... At the end of our stay, the staff posed for pictures with us. The food was outstanding -- best we've had in any of over a dozen hotels we've visited in Japan -- and if we knew any of the names, we would pass then along. Our room was large and comfortable and included a private onsen style bath and views of cherry blossoms and Lake Biwa. We used this hotel for 10 nights as a base from which to explore Kyoto. The quiet property was a 20 minute walk from the train station [they will take you by shuttle bus if you prefer] plus a 20 minute train ride [runs every 15 minutes]. There is also one really good temple with excellent cherry blossoms nearby in Otsu. Now, we are at a different hotel on the other side of Kyoto. In this new place we feel like we are processed in and out by number [236 if you must know].

"Basic, dated with simple breakfast"
We just stayed four nights in a very dated room. Breakfast is very basic - ok for one meal but don't bother thereafter. The hotel is in a good location just a block away from the main areas you would want to see in Kyoto. Staff were friendly and helped us find an English speaking doctor and made the appointment for us which we appreciated. I would stay here again, but expect a basic older style yet clean room.

"A memorable experience"
It was our first time to Japan, and we weren't exactly sure what the whole experience would be like. While there was a bit of a language barrier we were not disappointed in the least. Right from the moment we got on the shuttle (from Ogotoonsen the nearest train station) to when we were dropped off, the staff did everything they could to make our stay as memorable as possible. The dinner served in our room was incredible, breakfast equally amazing, and having the private osen in our room tied everything together. I was a bit worried beforehand about the dinner since I don't eat any meat except fish, but they accommodated without issue. The only unexpected bit was the hotel was not right on the lake and there was a small road inbetween, but very little traffic and the well kept garden near the windows blocked things out. Apparently it's pretty common that they are not completely out of town so they're accessible to locals. Would definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone.

"unique experience in a traditional ryokan"
we spent two nights here. Found the staff incredibly kind and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly for us. One of them wrote out for us in Japanese all of the sights we wanted to go to so that we could show taxi drivers the Japanese names of the locations. It turned out to be incredibly helpful and made our brief stay very smooth. We also had the traditional Japanese dinner one of our nights at the ryokan. it was amazing. We had never had anything like it. The owner was lovely and introduced herself during our dinner. The room was very comfortable, decorated in the traditional Japanese style. We had big windows that opened up to a lovely garden view with the hills in the distance. We would highly recommend. It was a wonderful experience all around.

Takashima is calling — find the perfect hotel

Everyone wants to score a deal on travel, but price is just one factor to consider when booking an unforgettable hotel. Whether you’re visiting family, attending a conference or taking a well-earned vacation in Takashima, having an awesome experience should be a no-brainer.

Hotwire will hook you up! From restful nights near your flight to that prime spot in the city’s heart, we’ve done our research to bring the best options to your fingertips. Book your Takashima hotel with us now and start your next adventure.

You’re not the average traveler — and we know it

You’ve done your homework and know exactly where you want to go. We’re here to help with some Hotwire travel geek-approved tips on how to save on your booking.

    Get away for the weekend

Hotels in bigger cities usually charge higher rates during the week, when people are traveling for business. Weekends can be a bargain! It’s the other way around for vacation spots, so if you’re looking for a beach escape, consider a mid-week trip.

    Give yourself some wiggle room

If your plans are flexible, play around with some different travel dates – a shift of a few days either way can help you save big. Prices usually jump the weekends before and after popular holidays, so we recommend steering clear of them. Or consider visiting during the off-season, when prices are generally lower.

    Plan around big events

Are prices surprisingly high? There might be a huge conference or festival in town. Consider shifting your dates if you can. Of course, if that’s why you’re going, you’ll have to bite the bullet. We’ll still work to get you the best rates out there.

    Noodle over new adventures

Set aside time to plan what you want to see, taste and discover. Nothing completes a trip, big or small, like a few new experiences! Check city apps or area websites to find out what’s new and what events are happening during your stay. Even during a family reunion, you can detour to that locals-only fish taco stand or under-the-radar music club. Your cousins will be impressed.
