Bearing in mind that this cost $400, plus tax, per night in an very popular area of Santa Barbara - directly opposite the harbor, here's why I gave 4 stars.
1st star - check-in was smooth and easy, and the person who checked us in was polite helpful and welcoming.
2nd Star - the room was clean, nicely decorated if not a bit spartan, with just the bare minimum provided to justify the nightly rate. A fridge, Keurig, room safe and flat panel TV. On the negative side, watch out for those slippery bathroom floors. Whoever was in charge of selecting the following materials should undergo design education. That carried to the shower, which looked like it came from the Home Dept plastic shower section. The mini-split AC unit was finicky, but necessary what with the road noise.
3rd star - convenient location, free private parking, cute if somewhat isolated pool and hot tub.
Now for the, "oh well, maybe book somewhere else next time". Included was free breakfast - powdered eggs, sausage, sausage and more sausage, and soggy hash browns. Decent pastries, and an adequate coffee machine dispensing lattes, cappuccinos and espressos. Minute Maid orange juice and high school cafeteria decor.
Another negative - nickel and dime approach to customer service. Early check-in, even if the room is ready - $25. Later check-out - $25. Cleaning service - every 3 days. Lots of rules.
And finally - the bed. So-so mattress with awful pillows. Suggestion - if you stay here bring your own.
