The resort is huge! Lots to do. A lot of pools with variety of entertainment. Close to all other Riu hotels. Great beach!

The room was fine and the overall property was clean and well maintained. However, the service level, food options, and food quality were extremely poor. Communication was very difficult, and most requests were either unavailable or handled with reluctance. For example, when we asked for basketballs or other sports equipment, the staff was uncooperative and we had to search for a manager to get any help. Restaurant services were very poor, and at one of the restaurants it took about 1.5 hours to receive our food. Vegetarian food was a major challenge as well. Every time we requested vegetarian options, the restaurants were unwilling to accommodate. The check-in process was also unnecessarily long. Even after completing online check-in in advance, we still spent about 45 minutes at the desk to receive our room. Transportation was equally disappointing. Although the hotel provides airport transfers, the wait was extremely long. After walking a long distance with luggage, we finally received a ride to the hotel. The return trip to the airport was similar; we were sent to multiple desks to get confirmation before finally being assisted. Overall, the experience was cumbersome and far more difficult than it needed to be. This was our first stay at a Riu Hotel & Resort, and based on this experience, we are unlikely to stay at another Riu property in the future.

I had a negative experience at the RIU Palace Bavaro, which compelled me to share my thoughts despite usually giving five-star reviews. 1) Our reserved rooms were unavailable upon arrival. I had booked adjacent double rooms for my family, but instead, we were offered an "upgrade" with only one bed. After two hours of negotiation and moving from room to room, we ended up in separate rooms half a mile apart. The staff showed no acknowledgment of their mistake, and the manager refused to speak with me. The next day, we were asked to check out at 12 to receive our correct rooms at 3, being left without accommodations for three hours! I refused to do so, and they agreed reluctantly. At a minimum, RIU should have comped us or reimbursed us for our first night of stay at a minimum. They did not even apologize. 2) The food was disappointing. Although the resort has many restaurants, long lines prevent most guests from dining in, forcing them to settle for a buffet with tasteless and low-quality options. Three family members suffered from food poisoning, and my son often went hungry. 3) The TV remote was missing from one room, and after multiple calls and a visit to reception, it took too long to resolve. We had to cover the TV to sleep, and the technician was careless, failing to test the TV after delivering the remote. 4) While most staff were friendly, many lacked professionalism. When addressing issues, they often became defensive and shifted blame instead of apologizing.

Booked 2 rooms both rooms sheets weren’t changed and it had red stains which looked like blood and we had bug bites for the 1st 2 days from the bed we were sleeping in. Also I noticed roach in one of the bedrooms and I complained to the manager at RIU palace Bavaro his name is Erik. He said he would look into it and I asked him what is he going to do about it and if they can compensate us but he never got back to me. They did change the sheets for the last 2 days of my stay however I would like to receive refund back for the 1st 2 days of my stay there.
