Terrific! Staff were friendly. Rooms were clean and minibar was perfect for night caps. Food was good. Could use more flavor. But i get the bland due to different people eating and their dietary needs. Pools- activities- and night shows were great. Kids enjoyed themselves. Count on us to return again.

The Hotel Riu Vallarta is a nice place. We definitely enjoyed the beach, pools, and bars. However, it is nearly impossible to eat at one of the restaurants besides the buffet at a reasonable time. There are no reservations, so people start lining up 30-60 minutes ahead of opening just to get in and get a table. Everyone gets added to a waitlist so it might be hours before you eat after standing in line. We wanted to eat at the Steakhouse but the line was insane all five days we were at the resort. Also, the entertainment is a bit lackluster. There were some reasonably good musicians, but they only play for 30-45 at a time. Then the RIU staff put on quiz shows, or children's entertainment in between musical acts. We were disappointed.

I appreciated the housekeeping were thorough. The hotel check-in staff were rude about swimming pool towels overly stating that not turned in will be charged. Accusing me of stealing them i have no use for hotel towels. Watered down juice n drinks cheese sauce. Gravy all watered down gross. Enjoyed fresh fruit n daily fresh special in buffet. Pool activities lacked variety of activities n music. No English speaking translation for fire alarm incident which was traumatizing for my kids. Will not return here.

Wife left glasses over the coffee counter at the room and they vanished after the room was cleaned. Staff at the sushi bar sat us at a corner where the A/C was in full blast. It was freezing cold. When asked the waiter to move us to a table/area where it wasn't so cold we were told to get back in the line and wait another 35 minutes to be relocated. The restaurant was half empty and there were plenty of free spaces where they could have relocated us. The staff member in charge of handling towels at the swimming pool (young girl with curly blonde/hazel hair) denied me the ping pong rackets claiming there was a tournament. Immediately after my wife went to ask for them and the staff member handed them over to her. There wasn't a tournament, she just wanted to give me a hard time for no reason. Finally, I had to make 4 calls to reception throughout the day to have the pepsi light replenished in our room fridge. Overall staff was attentive, professional and friendly but it only takes a couple of unfriendly people to ruin your experience.

The mattress was bad. I also spoke to other patrons who said the same thing. The towel tokens was the stupidest thing ever… that needs to go. The restaurants were ok… you need to switch to reservations to accommodate all the patrons. The evening events needs to be better. Music is good but better options for entertainment is needed. Pools and bartending services were excellent. Add room service and better options for food after hours. Overall - 3 stars . Thank you for the stay.
