We expected hostel standards, but it was better then we thought. Nice bar, rooms are clean. It is possible to blackout them during midnight sun (not 100% but enough). Hotel is obout 30 minutes by foot from city center.

    "Great location"
Facilities are a bit dated. TV didn't work from the start of the trip. Overall, great hotel for short stay

    "A worthy upgrade"
I stayed at another hotel that was cheaper for two nights and "upgraded" to the Spitsbergen Hotel (which *everyone* locally calls the "Funken") for my last night. It was $50 more, but 1) I got a private bathroom instead of a shared one 2) the fantastic, vegetarian-friendly breakfast was included 3) the room is nicer and larger, with a full desk 4) there are more shared areas to sit and read 5) wi-fi reaches into the bedroom 6) there is always staff at the reception to help.
