Overall it was a nice experience .. though one thing which I didn't like was the hotel transport which we booked from the hotel for Kandy took us to all the places enroute to get fleeced by shops.. one of them was a spice garden where the sold us fake products on exhorbitant prices .. I think the hotel staff is hand in glove with these organisations..

Nice hotel in Kandy with good views if you have a room in higher floors. The pool was refreshing also. We spent 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and Kandy was our least favorite tour stop. It's the 2nd largest city in Sri Lanka but there wasn't much to do there other than watch a tourist trap fire show and see the Buddha's Tooth Temple. But the temple was full of hundreds of people all cramming to see a tooth which we never did. The cave temples were nice and there's friendly monkeys everywhere. Best thing about Kandy was this hotel. Rooms are big, have all the necessities: AC, hot shower, clean fluffy towels, comfy beds, good smelling toiletries and fast wifi. The service was great and the buffets were delicious with lots of varieties at a very good price. Only bad thing was the bus loads of tourist being dropped off for the dinner buffet. So get there early to get a table and food before the big tourist groups eats it all. Better yet, skip Kandy and go to the other towns with beautiful landscapes and mountains and peace and quiet.

"Excellent Colonial home just 2km from Galle Fort"
We celebrated a perfect 16th wedding anniversary in The Admiral suite at Tamarind Hill and absolutely loved it. Many hours were spent on the wide colonial verandah, reading and relaxing. The days were beautiful, sunny and warm 30ish. The verandah had a constant but gentle cooling breeze making it ideal for whiling away an afternoon.
The colonial home (hotel) is a little out town surrounded by natural bushland. The only sounds were the local wildlife, monkeys and peacocks, both of which wander the property. It was extremely peaceful and relaxing, sitting and reading on the verandah or beside the pool.
If you want a quiet spot near Galle Fort and the experience of on old colonial mansion, you can't beat Tamarind Hill, The Admiral' room. You can really get a sense of the luxury they enjoyed. The master bedroom was enormous with a traditional four poster bed, mozzy netting and antique ceiling fans. The bedroom included sitting and dressing areas. The ensuite is bigger than most hotel rooms. There was a further sitting room / launch with matching size to the bedroom. This was all topped off with two of our own private balconies. It was all very indulgent.
The alcohol was about half the price of anywhere in Galle with a G&T for about $4 US. Meals where good, but Galle Fort is also a 5 minute slow Tuk Tuk ride away if you wanted a broader selection.
