Good hotel not too far from the centre
I stayed at this hotel for three nights in January. In general, the experience was good. The hotel isn't too far from the centre, a 15 minute walk away, although it feels like more when it's bitterly cold, so we caught a taxi at night. The staff were helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was OK. There wasn't a huge variety but if you wanted something which wasn't out, eg. a yoghurt, they went off and found you one. There' a large supermarket practically next door, so I'd avise you to buy supplies there since the mini bar was the most expensive I've ever seen!The one small problem I had was with the heating. I couldn't get it to work but apparently it's because you have to ask them to turn it on at the Reception!

Excellent service and very pleasant staff
Stayed two nights here - room ' without' a view but room itself more than comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Great shower and really deep bath - delightful! Lovely breakfast buffet. Had to get taxi in/out of Alcala - 5 - 10 euro a trip. Only disappointment was that we had requested a non-smoking room well in advance of our stay but unfortunately, on arrival, they apparently had none left. As it happened, the room we got was perfect and did not smell of smoke.

A "techno" but nice hotel with a "DMZ"(demilitarized zone) back space
Another warm experience of nice and polite "hotel people" combined with a "techno" design of said hotel building in Alcala de Henares. Alcala de Henares is a satellite to Madrid small historical city very near Barajas airport.The room is cleverly separated in 2 with a "half wall" which is utilized to back up your pillow on one side while on the side a short but ergonomic table is very helpful as a nesting place to your laptop. the bathroom is spacious, the cleanliness is absolutely fabulous and the service is always great.The restaurant chef is maybe too much "French" oriented with a lot of stylish dishes. The food itself would be also excellent if it were more Spanish..At the end of the day I think it is always easier to play the role you know as your real self and not pretending to be someone else.Again, I have to underline the politeness of hotel personnel.

All the Basics Covered
We stayed here 11 days while I attended a technical conference in Alcala. We added vacation days on either end. We wanted a modern hotel, rather than risking something historic that was cramped. We got what we wanted with the Rafael. Room was nice, highly functional, great bed. Lobby and patio's very nice. The breakfast at 12 euro's was not an unusual price in these types of European hotels, but too much for us and we found a place for about 5 euro's each a 5 minute walk away. Get a room looking east, as the other side has only the facade of the building close across the street in your face. (The hotel staff was happy to move us once I realized this.) The rooftop pool is nice; I was disappointed that it was not open until our last couple of days; they had said to me in an email it is open for "summer" but I didn't inquire specifically about the days of our stay. The front desk staff is excellent -- good english (which is NOT the norm around Alcala or anywhere in Spain) and very knowledgeable and helpful. The internet was free if you used the Ethernet cable, although they didn't volunteer that information initially and I found out after paying for wireless for a few days. In retrospect, although we wanted a home base for our various excursions, and this hotel was perfectly adequate, we tired of it and if doing it again would not stay in a hotel like this for so long when there are charming hotels all over. Our approach lessened uncertainty but also the fun of exploration and discovery. We pre-booked and pre-paid via Expedia, so our options were limited.

Poor service & unreasonable wifi and parking charges
Wife and I and a relative couple stayed 1 night in this hotel before going to Madrid airport. Whereas the room was clean and ok, there were a number of issues that we had experienced:1. Poor service at reception. The guy claimed that he had started working there only a few days ago but his English was poor. He couldn't sort out the Wifi printout easily and kept us waiting. He couldn't explain the way we should use the underground carpar clearly. Both of these were chargeable at high prices. Being a business hotel, charging wifi at 8-10 ¿¿¿ per day seems crazy to me. The underground carpark was almost empty and one could simply park at the side streets outside for free. He forgot or didn't realise that the aircond had to be turned on. As it was a very hot day and we had to complain a couple of times.2. My relatives went to the cafe at 5pm'ish wanting something light before dinner, they could only offer 1 kind of sandwich out of the published menu! It was very expensive too.3. We decided to try out their restaurant and he old us it would open at 8pm. Went down at 8 and waited till 8:15 and only to be told that it was opening at 8:30! We drove to a nearby restaurant instead.This hotel, obviously being convenient to stay before flying off from Madrid, takes the view that they wouldn' or unlikely to see you again and therefore takes your money whichever way possible. I wont recommend this hotel. Sorry!
