Beautiful Wedding Venue!
We attended a wedding reception at Drapers Hall on 20/04/2013. The ceremony took place at Shrewsbury castle and then all the guests made the short walk to Drapers Hall. Drapers proved to be a beautiful and atmospheric venue with stunning period features and charm. We were greeted with Pimms and a selection of fruits in champagne flutes and served a delightful array of stunning and delicious canap¿¿s. The wedding breakfast was superb, quite easily the most delicious food I have experienced at a wedding reception, the service was excellent, we found the staff to be pleasant, polite and efficient. Following the meal guests moved to the second floor to see the cutting of the cake and were served tea and coffee. After a short period of time the downstairs venue had been transformed to allow for the evening entertainment. Thanks to all of team at Drapers, an excellent time was had by all!

Never mind about the olde worlde
True this building has plenty of character. We were in the orange room which is comfortable but here was what we found. Parking is a nightmare the hotel only has two spaces at ¿¿12 a day nine of which seemed to be available. Parking outside is limited to one hour no return within two hours, the room was warm, clean and comfortable. The shower powerful. But drawbacks were an electrical fitting hanging off the walls in the bathroom by the shower, a broken toilet seat, no face flannels, the church bell ringing out the hours through e night. Nine of these posed a problem for us though. The staff are young, enthusiastically friendly but you are essentially locked into the hotel overnight as no staff are here during the night hours. The restaurant food was of very high standard and the atmosphere in the restaurant engaging. So make sure you can park the car, take ear plugs if you don't like the bells of the church clock and remember your face flannels. Enjoy this medieval building and town.

Midweek break
We stayed for two nights in the Teale suite, which is at the top of the hotel. It has it's ownentrance ,but you can also get to it through the hotel. The hotel is really old and quirky with beautiful original feautures. The fireplaces are tremendous. The americans would be over the moon here,as it is just what English hotels of this age are all about. The dining room was really full of character, stunning features, and we had an excellent meal there on the one evening. The breakfast was really good also , The full works well presented. We had no trouble with service, in fact the owners were very helpful with us. The suite itself, was ideally for two adults and two children, as the second bedroom had limited headroom , but we four friends found that the sitting room, dining, and kitchen area, made up for that. It was great to be able to sit together and have a drink when chatting. The floors were sloping as you would expect in a place of that age, but added to the fun.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay . If you are not good at climbing stairs it would be better to pick another room, as this one is at the top of the hotel, otherwise great.

A Great Stay
We stayed on a Monday night in February with snow on the ground and I had a wrong picture of possibly a draughty period building. The rooms were toasty warm and well cared for. We stayed in the Lime Suite and plan to stay again. Friendly staff.I am 6ft2in tall and the Lime Suite's bed was just long enough but the feet of anyone taller may touch the bottom wooden 'bedstead'.The hotel is just under 10 minutes walk from the railway station. If you are staying in a suite and want food - there is a Little Waitrose (open till 10.00pm) directly opposite; and 50m away an M&S with Food (open till 6.00pm).Regarding eating out there wasn't too much nearby in Shrewsbury that looked appealling. Would have definitely eaten at Drapers. Peach Tree looked good on their website but we werent keen when we saw it. There is a Loch Fyne. Excellent village pubs in surrounding areas. When we checked in we were asked at what time we would like breakfast. Breakfast was lovely though the room was a little chilly - it was snowy & very cold outside. A bowl of fresh fruit was on our placemats when we sat down (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries) then we had coffees, toast from homemade breads, and full English breakfasts. There was a selection of muesli, cereals, jams, honey etc (and fresh flowers) on the table.I recommend the Shrewsbury Coffeehouse on Castle St next to the station. Free wifi & friendly service. There are lovely galleries and an interesting dress shop on the main street in front of Draper's Hall. Shrewsbury has a lovely selection of independent shops.
